I say as soon as you can.  No one expects them within the week of your return, but maybe within 3 months. I know technically you have a year, but I think that is just plain too long.

I went to a wedding in mid- August and I can honestly say I am starting to get annoyed I havent gotten a thank you yet.  I even checked my account (I gave cash at this one) to be sure the check was cashed in case they didn’t get my card (I mailed it after the wedding actually)

@lefeymw: actually, its  a year to get the couple a gift (some weird old rule back from back in the day, i dont remember actual terms of it) and ~3months max for thank yous, i believe.

@twentyeleven: Oh good! I always thought it was one year and thought that was absurd!  Although giving a gift a year later is not cool either. Unless there is a good reason.

Ditto the within three months.  I was living in a dreamland, thinking I’d get mine out in a month… but for some reason, my normal excitement about writing thank you’s has VANISHED.  My goal is to do them all before the end of this month (which would be 2 months).

I do it right away! (If I don’t do things right away I tend to forget….)

i used to know the reason and its a pretty old “rule” but i’ve forgotten and the important part stuck with me 🙂 it does seem ridiculous to send something a year later to me- card OR gift!

In my rule book, 3 months is more than ENOUGH time. Unless something catastrophic were to happen in my & fi’s life after the wedding, there is no reason why we will not send Thank You’s out within that time frame.

I went to 2 weddings this past year, 1 in May and 1 in June and still have not received thank you’s from either party.  Frankly, I’m slightly annoyed.

I’ll probably be past the 3 month timeline. I finished and mailed thank yous to my husbands side, but I’m slower on my side. I’ve had a lot of serious stuff happen in my life, and I’m hoping that my family and friends will be understanding of my situation. I still feel guilty, but I know that they wouldn’t want me to worry about it.
