Do you have a Teavana near you? They have lots of unique teas and kits maybe they can't get at home?
My MIL is into her rottie so i can always get her rottweiler stuff =]
that's so nice of them!
I think tea is the way to go. How about a nice big tea box filled with different varieties? It's small enough for you to carry and since its something you know they enjoy its sure to be a hit.
I just googled and mightyleaf.com has some nice gift sets.
Well I assume that you could get a nice bottle of wine right? I would actually ship it instead of bringing it. Wrap it and ship it!
P.S. I'm thinking that a famous bottle from where you're from might be really special to them.
I'll have to look into mightyleaf.com... I'd heard good things about tea from http://www.rishi-tea.com/. Have any of you had flowering tea? It looks so pretty, but I wonder if it's tasty?
I wish I knew more about them so it could be more personal. I kinda didn't want to get wine because it seems like a go-to gift... but a local wine might be a good idea : ) California definitely isn't lacking in vineyards, after all!
California has some of the best wine! It would be so thoughtful! Include a note that it's from where you live and that you're happy to get to know them!
Also, I love mighty leaf. That's my favorite tea ever. Fiance and I drink Green Tea Tropical everyday.
What about something homemade? I bring my FMIL zucchini bread whenever I can, and she always sends me home with cookies. Do you have any recipes you're good at that you bake for them?
Something homemade is a great idea, Stacy! Maybe I can combine the two and bake some biscotti to go with the tea?
Since you are in CA - I'd suggest a box of See's candy or truffles. Even though it's now available in other places, it's still a 'CA' thing. I'm sure any gesture would be appreciated.
Thanks Oracle! Everyone appreciates chocolate :D I'm thinking I might just put together a basket of various goodies... though I'm sure they'd love whatever I got them.
how about a gift certificate for dinner/wine tasting at a local winery???
:D I'm sure there are. Mr. Doxie always rolls his eyes when I ask him, "Does Canada have __________?" The answer is uuusually yes!
I got them a giftcard for a nice dinner as a thankyou for being such great hosts the last time I stayed with them, so I think this time I'll go with something a little different.

Hey ladies! I hope all of your Monday mornings are going swimmingly : )
I need all of your creative advice!
I don't know my future in-laws very well. At all. They're super nice people, and I feel so fortunate to be a part of their family, but they live in Canada and I've only had a chance to meet them once.
I just found out they're flying me up to spend Canadian Thanksgiving with them so they can get to know me better and so I can meet some of the extended family. It's such a sweet (and pricey!) gesture, that I want to get them a little something to thank them.
So... I need your help picking something to get them! FI's absolutely no help.
I know they like wine, but I don't know anything about wine. I know they also like to drink tea, and I thought about getting them a few varieties of nice teas...
Have any of you been in this situation? Do you have any original gift ideas? Anything would help me out!
