I am in the same boat as you. My shower is coming up in April and I want to be able to thank a few special helpers! It is mostly my mother, sister, and sister-in-law helping out...
I guess I'm like, does it need to be a nice, fancy gift, or is ... say, a nice bottle of wine acceptable? Bees! I know at least one of you has had a shower!
I wouldn't think that they would expect anything nice. They know that the shower was meant for you to get nice things. I would go for a bottle of wine or a gift card to a coffee shop or their favorite restaurant. But that's just me :)
We hosted a shower for a friend a few months back & we each received a candle from a local candle store (just as amazing as Yankee Candle)- best gift I could have asked for because it was immediately put to use!
Not from personal experience exclusive to showers, but I think maybe something nice for their house and a good bottle of wine would be appropriate. And maybe taking them out for dinner would be a nice personal touch too?
We helped to host a bridal shower a few months ago and the bride brought us flowers in really nice vases.
It doubled as decoration for her shower, and when we left we got to keep the gorgeous vase!
I thought it was really cute and thoughtful!
For the showers that my friends & family hosted, my goal in my hostess gifts were to get something thats practical. I went to the Dollar Store and got little tote bags rather than gift bags. I filled them with some organic fair trade lotion and soap from the natural foods store. (I can't stand cosmetics with all the fake chemicals and harsh scents!) I also included a small umbrella from the Dollar Store and included a thank you note that said, "here are a few things in case of a shower and to use in your shower." For another shower that was hosted in my honor, I gave mini bottles of wine with mini wine glasses (rom Pier One) and attached 'thank you' charms to the glasses.

What kind of gifts are appropriate to give to the people who host your wedding shower? One of them will be hosted by FI's aunts, the other is hosted by my sister/MOH and FI's "second mother." What did you give as thank-yous?
