i'm ok with lying if you don't remember. or be general. thank you for the generous gift. we used it to buy something nice for our home together. or we're saving it for our future together. for people who didn't come to the wedding- we missed you at the wedding. hope to see you soon.
Thank you for your generous gift and your wonderful thoughts during our special day. We were sorry you couldn't celebrate with us, but thank you for thinking of us...
For those who couldn't make it, I wrote that they were missed...
For all monetary of g.c. gifts I indicated it was "much appreciated as we fluffed our new nest."
I used a basic script for most cards, and added to it for close friends and relatives - it's not like anyone will be comparing their thank-you notes! Oh, and yeah I was gushing with graciousness on all cards, even the "what-were-you-thinking" gifts. You just gotta do it. :S
If someone gave you a particular item I do think it's nice to mention it in the note. Nothing elaborate just, "We can't wait to try the mixer!" or similar.
So, yeah, I turned into a horrible bride. My DH has finished his part of the thank you notes and he had more than I did. Must get motivated to do them. I'm such a slacker.
Dear ______,
DH and I wanted to thank you for the __________. We [already used it and love it // can't wait to try it out next time we _________.] We also wanted to thank you for [attending our wedding // thinking of us on our wedding day.] It was wonderful to share our big day with you, and we hope to see you soon!
Thanks again,
___________.
I wrote the traditional thank you's but to close friends I wrote goofy stuff because I was tired of all the sappiness. Like my friend let me come over and cut down branches off her willow tree for centerpieces so I wrote the tree a thank you and sent it to her or thanking a friend for drinking cups we can drink Dr. Thunder (generic Dr. Pepper) out of.

I don't feel like writing thank you notes.
Hehe, yeah I told myself to have them done before new years because I had a week off from work. Yeah, didn't get any done.
What to write... what to say?
Thank you for celebrating our special day with us.... blah blah blah.
Give me some ideas.
I don't think I'm going to tell them what we spent their wedding gift on...because I honestly don't remember.
For people who gave us money: Thank you for your generous gift.
What about for people who didn't come to the wedding but gave us a gift?
