So I am trying to finish up the last of our Thank you notes (Yes I know I am slow). I am kind of stuck on how to do thank you notes for two gifts that we didn’t like. One we can’t return and thus it sits in the box the bottom of our china cabinet.
The other gift wasn’t a bad gift but we already had one and hence the reason we didn’t register for one. I returned it and got something else.
Who else struggles with the “oh it is a lovely gift” thank you notes.
I just don’t know what to say because I hate to say oh it is something we will cherish for years to come.

I HATE writing thank you notes. Not only is my handwriting ugly, but I also feel like it is repetative.
I would say you loved the gift even if you didnt.

I would just lie. “Thank you so much for the (whatever the gift is). We love it, and can’t wait to use it for (whatever you use it for). We really appreciate you thinking of us, and it was great to have you there to share in our special day.

I always say something like “We’re so grateful for your kind/generous/thoughtful gift. As we begin our lives together it’s such a blessing to have received so many lovely things that remind us of our friends, family, and our awesome wedding day.” Or something similar. Implies without lying since I am grateful for the thought even if I hate the result 😀

For the stuff that can’t be returned I always like the ‘thank you so much for the blah blah blah. We’ll think of you each time we see it.’
Funny, ’cause it’s true 🙂
