Only if you want to.  It is not necessary, and some people may send you a gift later on, so then you would end up having to write two thank you cards to them.

You’re supposed to send TYs to anyone who came regardless of whether they gave you a gift.  The etiquette rules still say giving a gift is optional, and it makes you a gracious host.  It also can alert your guests if a gift they mailed did not arrive.  

(There’s nothing like a "Thanks so much for celebrating with us.  It was wonderful to see you again!" to say "The toaster oven you sent got lost in the mail!")
