Hi Bees! As the titles says, I’m debating what to do about thank you notes. My wedding isn’t until the end of June and today my FI and I got our first wedding gift in the mail. I was thinking of writing a note for the gift and putting it in the mail as soon as tomorrow but then it was suggested to me by a friend that it might be strange to send a thank you for a wedding gift when the wedding isn’t for another 4 months. On the other hand, I hate not getting thank you notes when I take the time to send a gift and I’d hate to be in their shoes wondering if we got it for months. So Bees, what do you think? Would you be put off if you got a thank you note for a wedding gift before the wedding?

@ms.christmas_deer: I’m not sure and actually just recently received an early gift, as well. I’ll look forward to the response on this one.

I send thank you notes as soon as I receive something. I had some generic notes I used until I got our official ones printed, but I didn’t want anyone to wonder if we received their gift. It also keeps them from piling up and having to write all of them at once!

@ms.christmas_deer: Same situation! Commenting to see what others say.

Write one up the minute you get a gift, if you have the time. You will sound more excited, they are more fun to write one at a time, and you won’t have to keep track of who sent what (unless you want to remember).
And, the person who sent it will be happy to hear that it was received, in good condition and appreciated sooner rather than later.
You can always send an additional thank you for attending the wedding after the wedding (in fact, you should).

- Wedding: August 2013 - The Liberty House
I would send them a thank you note now

Send one now! AND… please do keep track of who sent you what (and you can also add a place where you write that you did thank them, in case you can’t remember later.) I neglected to keep track of who sent me what prior to the wedding! I just sent a note off and forgot about it! BOOOO!!!! And now I have no idea who sent me all these lovely gifts! (We only wrote down the gifts that we received at the wedding!)

@bluegreenjean: Yes! ok, that’s exactly what I was thinking of doing…. two notes I mean.
Thanks everyone! I’m glad I had the right idea to begin with. I guess I just needed some validation 🙂

@ms.christmas_deer: I’d say send it, since the gift arrived. that way they won’t worry wondering what happened to it between now and then
