Wait until you get them! Many times a thank you note is an acknowledgment that you have actually receievd the gift!

@Oct910Bride: I feel the same way. I LOVE Giving gifts, but it’s harder for me to accept things from people. It feels awkward at times.

@PrncssDva:ditto this feeling about receiving gifts.  It feels so strange.  But, a wise lady once told me to think about the joy you get when giving gifts… by receiving a gift you are giving the gifter the same opportunity to feel that joy…. so, the response is to be grateful, etc.  It really helped me put it in perspective (but it’s still hard!!)

Wait until you get it, but if you have the downtime, go ahead and write the note! That way you can send it right away. I decided to wait until after the wedding to write thank you notes for gifts that were given ahead of time, but I wish I had WRITTEN them then when I got a chance and just waited to send them – I am drowning in thank you notes now!!
