@Atalanta:  That really sucks.  I wonder how many others will follow suit.  I liked shopping in the middle of the night.  But shopping during the day on Thanksgiving isn’t going to happen for me.  Oh well….guess I will do even more of my shopping on Amazon this year.

We had our Thanksgiving (Canadian) back a couple of weeks ago. I was always baffled as to why this huge shopping weekend falls on a holiday where you’re supposed to be grateful for what you have lol. In Canada we have no Black Friday.

And I’m totally a capitalist at heart… I still don’t get it 😛

@canarydiamond:  I feel like they created this shopping weekend because of Christmas. It’s gradually encroached on Thanksgiving and now it’s official. I hate that!!

@Atalanta:  Kmart has been open on Thanksgiving day for years – over a decade, probably close to two.  We used to go there to get away from family on Thanksgiving.

@Atalanta:  Thanksgiving is dead to me as well. Working at Levis 10 PM on Thanksgiving till 6 AM on Black Friday. Our outlet center is open from 6PM Thanksgiving night till 10 PM Black Friday….Hate how retail workers can’t even get one day with their family.

That is ridiculous! In my home state (Maine) it is a state law that these big chain stores (Walmart, Kmart, Sears, etc) can’t be open on 3 days: Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. I think it is a great law – it protects the employees who want to be home with their families on these days.

@Atalanta:  all I can think is “THANK GOD DH is no longer a manager with that horrible company!”

ETA: he used to pretty much work straight through that entire week. Including Thanksgiving day. They were open Thanksgiving morning, closed the store until that evening. But DH would be there anyway. He changed companies after they closed 2 profitable stores on him.
