So I met with a florist last night and was telling her about my purple shoes and the bright purple boquets I want and she proceeded to tell me how purple is the wedding colour of the year.
This makes me sad. Purple is my colour, it’s always been my colour and I was always going to use it. This is something that I’m not doing because it’s trendy, it’s something I’m doing because it’ ME.
Have you had this happen – your vision suddenly becomes trendy and it’s somehow less yours?

@MsGinkgo: What’s “trendy” right now will not matter in any way, I promise. Your guests will have no idea what’s trendy unless they are planning weddings of their own. My MIL just came back from a wedding raving about this really amazing cool thing that she had never seen before. Sparkler exit.
And when you look back at your pictures in 10 years, you’re not going to say “oh, purple was big in 2014.”

With purple, exactly. My favorite color ever since I’m a teen. I remember, when I started working in Winners at age 19, I had trouble finding this color anywhere in stores.
Not choosing this color as a trend, but because litterally everybody I know associate this color to me.
Same with vintage, 30’s, pin-up or neo-victorian stuff. I liked and embraces pieces of those styles years before they became trendy.
I remember the joy and challenge it represented to find clothing that would evoke those periods or style. I was really proud whenever I would go to a thrift store, or find something different in a store. It was really a good feeling to feel you have ”created” your own style. Then … a year ago or so, Pin-Up inspiration it was everywhere. *sighs*.

That sounds dumb to me, it’s a COLOR! Weddings always have colors, usually the bride’s favorite, and as far as I can tell, there aren’t really trendy colors right now other than peachy-pink (Pinterest….). I say you’re good, and no one (other than a florist) is going to be like “ah, purple, so in right now!” lol 🙂

@NauticalDisaster: exactly, if I didn’t have purple at my wedding my friends would wonder who’s wedding this was or who planned it. My HAIR used to be purple, it’s my thing.
I’m trying to not overdo it, and keep it somewhat subtle as it can be overwhelming but I need the purple.
@jdhall89: that’s very true – thank you. There are some trends that we’re embracing because they’re fun and cool and we want to do them (the sparklers are one of them).

@MsGinkgo: I wouldn’t worry about it just do what you love. You’ll regret changing it to something “unique” more than you’ll regret having the popular color you love. I think it’s a lot harder to be trendy with a color palette then it is to be trendy with details such as the barn weddings that everyone seems to be doing right now. It’s not like you’re choosing neon colors – which would be more of a “trend” then straight up purple.

@MsGinkgo: that’s odd, i totally disagree. while my wedding is purple as well (lol) ALL the weddings i’ve been to lately (or seen photos of) have been pink/blush/champagne/ivory. i haven’t ever been to a purple wedding, actually.

I had a purple coloured wedding, who cares if its trendy – its your wedding.

@TwoStatesBride: +1 I have been to a few purple weddings and know a few more being planned, but my wedding was blush/ivory/champagne, which I thought was the super popular color palette of the year.

@TwoStatesBride: i haven’t seen one IRL either, everyone seems to be doing the pinky beige thing around here. I thought I was being my individual self but apparently it has been popular – at least with this florist. I know I saw it in a trend thread on here too.
I’m still having my purple wedding though.

- Wedding: October 2014 - UK
@MsGinkgo: UGH, yes. I was reading in a wedding magazine that yellow gold is the “In-thing” for 2014 weddings. I’m getting married at the end of 2014, so I’m worried that the thing that has just been my personal style preference forever people are going to think is just bandwagon jumping. >:(

- Wedding: November 2013 - St. Augustine Beach, FL
@MsGinkgo: Purple has been the color for years since Khloe Khardashian used it for her wedding. It’s a flattering color and will always be popular so don’t spend too much time worrying about it.

@MrsWBS: weird! maybe its a regional thing. i’ve been to three weddings in the last year and one was black and hot pink, one was blush/champagne/ivory and one was coral/blush/champagne/ivory. i went to one the year before that and it was hot pink/orange (yes seriously.)

I had no idea that purple is trendy right now so I doubt most of your guests will know either. When people look back at your wedding pictures they will see your favorite color, they won’t remember that it was a trend. Do what you want- trend or not!

- Wedding: September 2015 - Ketchum, ID
@MsGinkgo: I’ve always hated when people complain about trendy things for weddings. It’s my weddings. If I want peachy-pink wedding, with burlap, mason jars, photobooths and sparkler exits, I’ll do it damn it. Because it’s my wedding, and I like it, and I don’t care what others think. When I look back at my wedding pictures in 20 years, all I care about is that I like it, not whether it was popular or not. Just FYI, these are not my wedding ideas, they’re just the most popular things I could think of.
