hahaha i’ve been running for about a year now and never experienced it until i ran my first 5km, it’s really bizarre, it’s not like a  diarrhoa feeling it just feels like you need to poop and goes away as soon as you stop running. i always guessed it has something to do with all the bouncing in your intestines or somethign hahahah. It doesn’t happen every time. Great article!

@Treejewel19:  I can’t get this horrified look off my face. FI used to run in a previous life, and he says he has never heard of this. We’ve been working on getting more fit and will next week run a 5k. I better wear a diaper I guess.

OMG that is HILARIOUS.

I used to run 4miles, 2x a day and I don’t remember ever feeling the need to crap my pants! lol

I will admit, when I started running longer distances (like at least six miles), I would sometimes find that my stomach would feel achey or crampy after my runs. I looked it up and I read that it’s because more of your blood is rerouted to your leg muscles, resulting in reduced blood flow in your gastrointestinal system. Pretty interesting — who knew?

That’s so weird – I’ve been running for a year now and have never heard about or experienced that. Nasty!!

It doesn’t happen to everyone, apparently, but OMG this was the BANE OF MY EXISTENCE when I started training for a 5k. That whole hop-off-the-treadmill-to-go-shit thing she describes? Been there, done that. It was less of an issue when I started running outdoors, for some reason, but maaaaaan. Worst. thing. ever.

Oh yes, very true!! I take immodium for marathons. It should not happen in a 5K though! I don’t have issues unless I’m going over ~13 miles, especially when I run faster.

That blog is awesome!  I’m going to share it with runner friends.  Yes, I know exactly what she’s talking about.  I got to the point where I’d drink coffee to try to take care of things before I started a run, and take immodium before long runs and marathons (and of course get up plenty early before said runs to take care of business).  As horrible as it is, when talking to other runners, I found out that a great number of my runner friends share my pain.  I’m so glad there’s a potty at every mile of a marathon course (and wouldn’t sign up for a race where that wasn’t the case!).  And every time I’ve run the NYC marathon, the goodies at the end were always better than what she mentions.

@Treejewel19:  OMG that is hilarious!! I just forwarded it to my mom. We started running 3 years ago to fundraise for Crohn’s (which I suffer from). We trained for a half marathon after never running before in our lives. We did it two years in a row, my mom kept up with the running (probably past her 10th half marathon now) , but I pretty much stopped. Trying to get back into it especially to get in shape for my wedding. But this was a great article! Thanks for sharing!
