I've only been to 2 weddings, and one had favors! But they were my favorite kind so I was happy. They were the soft cream-cheesy mint candies. I know they sound disgusting when said, but THEY ARE HEAVEN. You also cover them in sugar and mmmmmmmm!! :)
A beer mug!! That is so neat. Is there anything engraved on it or something?
There were 2 that I loved. One was a little tree that we planted in our yard! The other favour was a chocolate (I ate it and then it was gone) - no space taken up in my house lol
At Fiance's neice's wedding last summer. Little mason jars with homemade jam that her grandmother made.
The only favor I actually kept that wasn't edible was from my brother's wedding. It's a cute beachy picture frame.
My fav was a wedding which had a photobooth; the bride and groom used one strip for their guestbook and the other we kept as a favor. So fun.
No, it wasn't engraved, which I think is the reason I liked it so much. Otherwise, I would consider it a souvenir and keep it on a shelf.
I guess it's all about the edible stuff for everyone! I guess that's the direction I will have to start looking in for my favors.

Sorry for the double post, I got impatient and hit the button twice.
That's nice to hear that people are using the plants (seeds). I was considering doing that but my fi talked me out of it.
Mine is a silver plated set of salad tongs. I use them almost every day and got them at my neice's wedding over 7 years ago. She gave a variety of silver kitchen tools....spaghetti servers, pie servers and ladles. Everyone loved them as they were full sized and very useful.
I know this is kinda edible, but I went to a wedding where either the bride or grooms family (can't remember which) raised bees and honey, so we all got a tiny little jar of honey! yum!
I think the way you can set apart edible food, is to not just have something like candy that they munch on at the reception, but to have something edible which they pretty much have to bring home (like the honey!)
My favorite was a pint glass with a cute drawing and the bride and groom's name/wedding date on it. I know a lot of people don't like engraved favors, but the glasses are very cute and useful. We use them along with all our normal glasses and it always makes me smile when I see them.
Mine is probably wedding info-monogrammed Koozies. We use them all the time. You can never have too many koozies! I got little plastic cups from another wedding and we use those a lot too.
A handkerchief.. granted I got the handkercheif when I was very young, about 10. It was personalized with the names of the couple and the date, but i used it alot!!
I received a fan at a wedding once as a favor, it was very sturdy and I used it alot too!!
Aside from that all the other favors I havent really used much, but I do like keyrings, because I removed the actual ring part and use it. I also like edible favors I eat them right away if the food takes too long lol.. My least useful favor would be candles. they look pretty etc but I never use them
Like you said some people don't like engraved favors. If it has anyone’s initials, date of anything or a slogan its trash to me.
Favorite favor - Popcorn for the ride home.
I know I won't do it any justice by describing it, but here it goes...It was a piece of recycled glass that was stamped with a scene from nature, like a tree or starfish. Absolutely beautiful and I use it as a christmas tree ornament now.
I once got a nice bottle of olive oil. I think that's the only favor I've ever kept and put to good use! All others were typically candy or things that got thrown away before even leaving the hotel sadly enough. I usually prefer donations!
@juliasoko: No. Everyone got one of the four, but some people were changing with others, depending on what they thought they'd use the most. I wanted to find them for my daughter's wedding, but they were over $5. each...
My sister hired a caricature artist -- it was a HUGE hit and almost everyone in our family has framed their drawings :)
@Wannabe-diy-bride: I love that idea!! FI and I absolutely love getting our caricatures done, they're so fun! I wonder if there's any for hire in my area... :) Thanks for the idea!
I'm happy to see that some people on here liked the wildflower seeds! That's what we're doing ...makes me feel better :)
Um, this is kind of horrible, but... I've been to 7 or 8 weddings and I can't remember really liking the favors at any of them.
I'd been planning on skipping favors at our wedding, but I think I might make some owl-shaped chocolate lollipops, 'cause I think they would be fun and not very expensive to make.
A few years ago I went to a wedding where the favors were personalized shot glasses filled with colorful jordan almonds. The shot glasses were very pretty on the tables and went over well with everyone despite being an item often associated with binge drinking. I still think of the couple whenever I make a cocktail with their glass.
At one wedding all of the girls got flip flops, which was heaven after a day of being in high heels!
Seed packets! Those were the only favors that I ever liked that weren't edible! Frankly, most favors I've received were knick-knacks that were kinda useless (unless they were edible). I would just make sure if you're spending the money on something inedible, that they are things your guests will actually use and not just throw in the junk drawer when they get home.
@teacherandgeek:
I did that for my fiancee's 30th bday party and people seemed to like them. Some people even put it as their face book status. I find several artists online and I did some bargaining to get a better price. I wish it wasn't so many of the same people, otherwise I would definitely do it.
Chocolate. Everything else either gets left there or thrown out.
@teacherandageek: we're doing this for our wedding since we used a caricature of ourselves for our S.T.D.s! Im so stoked! Everyone really loved our S.T.D.s.
I've never kept a favor, they've always been edible.
My mom will be making her "famous fudge" and we'll be putting a couple pieces along with a piece of her famous "magic cookie bar" inside a pretty red box adorned with a pretty satin teal or black bow. Something we always do for the holidays anyways and something we know everything will love!
SO's brother gave small lucky bamboo plants as favors. Two years later we still have one we're barely keeping alive.
I love the idea of seedlings - i think we will do that too!
My fave was a set of kitchen measuring spoons - they were custom made, unsure from where but like the tbsp said "heap of love" and the tsp "dash of happiness" type of thing. Cute but super useful!
So, I am SO glad that I read this post. We are doing the little brownie pops that are decorated like brides and grooms, but I just read the post about mason jars. I am becoming a Mason (grooms last name) and I dont know why I didnt think to incorporate them before. Dont know what I would put in them cause my wedding is vintage romantic but thanks for the idea!
I think the most memorable favor I've received were chopsticks with the bride and groom's name on them...and probably photo coasters, where I could put my own photos in afterwards.
My fiance and I will likely go the old stand-by route of candy - as I have no idea what I've done with the favors I just mentioned above!!
Definitely loved the photo booth idea. My fiance and I went to a wedding that had one, and loved bringing home a frame with pictures of us in them. We came home from that wedding and booked a photo booth for our own wedding! :-)
I heard of a bride that gave scratcher lotto tickets in a pretty printed envelope as favors. She got the idea from her venue and was told "We usually have to throw out left behind favors but I've never seen anyone leave a lotto ticket behind". Hmm... neat idea!!!
@juliasoko: The best wedding favor I received was a porcelain sugar bowl with tiny spoon from Italy. They came in these really nice sturdy blue boxes and were really pretty and nicely presented. Still have mine after many many many years.
One I recieved it was a light-up tambourine. A little plastic one with led lights on it. It was a HIT at the wedding and got everyone on the dance floor. Now it resides in the toy box and is the first thing picked up by every kid that comes in.
As soon as I got engaged, we ordered them for our favors!

Hello hive,
If you have ever attended a wedding, chances are you were given some kind of useless item that you either discarded of right away or one that is still collecting dust on the top shelf somewhere in your house. What was that rare favor that you actually used? (edible items don't count)
I'll go first. My favorite thing ever is this huge beer mug that I use all the time since regular size glasses just aren't big enough to quench my thirst. Everyone else who received it uses it all the time as well. The candy that was originally inside the mug was also put to good use. LOL
Who is next??
