@sarahroby:  neither were anywhere near us when it happened so we just called them all to let them know.. not too exciting I suppose

Go visit them and show them the ring. Or call. Or email (if they won’t be surprised)..

@sarahroby:  We got engaged at around midnight my time which was around 1am their time.  I was in the middle of a huge argument with my parents so when I called them up in the middle of the night and woke them up.  They almost hung up on me and were less then enthused (and awake).  The next morning I woke up to about a dozen messages from them on my phone totally exicted and asking if it was really true, they’ve been over the moon since then.

We went to their house, and when I walked in, I said Hey Mom, she looked at me and before she could say “what” I just lifted my hand up for her to see.

@sarahroby:  We texted pictures of my ring (on my finger) to his mother and my parents. Both called us back within 2 minutes freaking out. We had dated for 9 years before getting engaged and they were both like, “it is about time!!!!!”

@sarahroby:  FI had actually called my family to ask for everyone’s blessing and his family all knew and had seen my ring. We decided to wait and enjoy our first night of being engaged without making the announcement but when we called everyone the following say they all said they’d been waiting by the phone for us to call. Lol we were on a trip in NYC and the family is all in Ca so they only for a phone call 😉

@sarahroby:  We were on our way to his mom’s for Thanksgiving so I called my dad. He knew it was coming since they’d had the “Hey, I’m gonna ask your daughter to marry me” conversation the week before. He was super excited and very proud of himself for not spilling the beans to my sister. 🙂

Then we went to his mom’s and I went up to say hi. Then when he came in he’s like “SHOW HER” so I showed her the ring and he told her “mom- (lia) and I are going to get married”. She didn’t seem surprised. LOL She has Parkinson’s so it’s sometimes hard to gauge her reaction to things. But when we were leaving she had woken up from her nap and seemed more “with it”. She asked to see the ring again and started chastizing me to keep it in a safe place, blah blah. It was cute. Now she’s super excited and constantly having FI’s sister text me questions.

(My mom has passed and so has FI’s dad.)
