@HonoraryNerd:  at first I was like “bragging!! No!” Because I thought this would be about materialistic stuff, haha. But I’m jumping! I earned a doctoral degree before the age of 30, moved across the country for an internship for said degree and live in the most beautiful place (one of the best in the country, in my opinion!). I also ran my first half marathon this year in 2:07, I wanted a sub 2 but not too shabby I think for my first! I will be running a full marathon in May of this year. what are your bragging rights?!?!

@HonoraryNerd:  that’s amazing!!! I am always envious of people talented in the realm of music. I did some chorus and band things in high school but was not very talented. You go girl!!

I’ll brag about my FI. He just got a first-author paper published in Nature, which is the best scientific journal out there. Science bees will know what it is, but for those who don’t, it’s hard to even explain how amazing it is. It is the ultimate validation of his work, and anyone who sees that on his resume will automatically know he does incredibly important and high-quality work. He’s really humble, and always claims that he thinks his adviser doesn’t think he’s smart, or that he’s the worst student in his group, so this is such a boost for him. I’m getting my PhD in mechanical engineering, but I’m not nearly as much of a rock star as him…

@DrD711:  good for you! On both counts. A doctorate is such a great accomplishment, especially so young.

@HonoraryNerd:  I’m jealous of people that can carry a note, let alone be that accomplished at it. I make ears bleed when I try to sing. I would just like to be able to sing in the shower without hubs begging me to stop.

@DrD711:  I wish I could finish my PhD before 30. I’m *hoping* to finish at 31. Good work!

@HonoraryNerd:  That is so cool. I’m totally tone deaf 🙂

@cologirl:  you should brag for him, that awesome! Getting your PhD is huge no matter the age! Especially for a woman in that field. It’s always inspiring to hear women getting such degrees in traditionally male dominated fields.

I guess my accomplishment would be that I’m considered to be a pretty great special educator.  This past summer, I was chosen to be a presenter at our county-wide workshops for reading/language arts.  I also had an educator who trains teachers all over the country with how to be more effective teachers give me a huge compliment.  After she observed one of my lessons one day, she told the superintendent of my county that I should be the model teacher for the county.  I only know this because my dad was still working for the board of education at the time, and he heard this conversation.  So, I guess I’m a good teacher!

@HonoraryNerd:  Awww, really? I wish I could sing! You are so lucky.

I’m the complete opposite. I’m absolutely shameless when it comes to my music talents, mostly because that’s how I make a living. I finished my Bachelor of Music concentrating in education and flute performance (and FH did the same but with piano – I will brag for him as well while we’re at it). I’ve been playing flute for 12 years, only through school and managed to get into a music program despite my lack of private lessons. I’ve also been playing guitar for 9 years and I did a couple of years of piano. FH is the pianist in this house though, he’s been playing since he was 4!

I also brag about my hockey skills. I’m not currently playing though. But back when I was in high school, I was a top player and was offered a scholarship to a good university in the US. I had an injury in high school though, and had to sit out the rest of the season so I lost the scholarship. Life had other plans I guess, but I played through university here.

I am still in college, but have happily found my niche in the world studying German and Spanish. Also starting to slowly teach myself Russian and French, as best I can… And picking it all up really quickly! I have a brain (and weird passion?) for language! Mini-brag over. 🙂

@frabrooke:  I have a lot of respect for special education teachers. My brother has high functioning autism, and without the teachers he’s had through the years, he would not be where he is. He is in grade 10 at a special vocational high school, and training to become a mechanic.
