ok. so i somewhat have a delima…
I found a dress I really like (actually someone here suggested it back to me in a thread I posted a while back!)
It’s the Alfred Angelo dress:
Which I think matches my dress beautifully:
Here’s the delima…my MOH has called a few places here in Indy but no shops have them over a size 12 for my maids to try on. They’re both bigger than a 12 and wouldn’t be able to try it on at all.
I really think this is the dress I would love for them to wear – however I want to make sure that they #1 are comfortable in whatever dress they end up picking and #2 obviously that they both look GOOD in it, especially since they are both plus-size.
My MOH keeps telling me “if that’s the one you absolutely want we’ll order it blind and just deal with it”…she thinks I’m being too “nice” by wanting to make sure that it looks right and fits right, etc…and that I should just do what I want to do.
But I would feel bad if they weren’t comfortable in their dresses during my day.
But of all the dresses they’ve tried on and all the ones I’ve seen online – this is the best one that “fits” the theme and goes with my dress.
SO my question is – have any of you ordered a dress – specifically for a plus-size woman – without trying it on first? I know, obviously, ordering means PAYING FOR and I would hate for them to order dresses that they don’t look good in or aren’t comfortable in…

DB has a dress with a really similar top (I only know this because my BM just emailed me to tell me she ordered it) Maybe they could try on a “similar” dress elsewhere just to ensure that the style looks good?

hotchild – my computer here at work isn’t letting me see it (darned flash sites! ugh!) – is that one a short tea length or floor length?

I like the dress, the only thing I don’t like is that it look like a version of yours…..you want to look different than anyone else that day. My .2 cents 😉

I actually posted the wrong link (that one’s only available online) but here’s one you can look at in stores. I think you would be most concerned with how the top half looks because I don’t think the bottom is going to make an impact on how it looks on someone. (in this case, it would just be longer)

i was in a wedding as a BM and we ordered dresses online with a store that had great return policies, so we had to take measurements, then order and try on when it arrived. mine originally didn’t fit, but I sent it back just fine and the second one was perfect.

If you had posted a different type of dress, I would say just order it and it will work out. However, my concern is that the fit of that dress could very well not be flattering on plus size bridesmaids. I think hotchild’s dress she posted may be more flattering in a plus size, since it has an empire waist and a full skirt.
I also agree with Mimi29…the dress is nice, but it is very similar to your wedding dress. Are you sure you wouldn’t want to stand out more?

Tulip – I’ve thought about that – but in all honesty I believe it will be fine. I’ve seen some wedding pics of brides and their maids with extremely similar dresses and I’ve grown to really like the idea. 🙂
thanks for the DB link!

@JuneBride: It sure is: Style F12723
I think maybe if they tried that on, you could get a good idea of how the longer one would look.
