FI and I dated for 3 years and a few months before he proposed. I think right around the 3-year mark was perfect for us. We’d actually been friends for 2.5 years before we started dating, so we got to know one another over what we refer to as a very slow courtship period. Then we started dating for real, moved in together after two years, and learned to live together and let our relationship evolve into being ready to get married.

We dated for 22 months before getting engaged. We’re both in our mid/late 30’s so a shorter time frame was just perfect for us. We’re getting married 2 months short of being together 3 years.

We dated for two and a half years before getting engaged. This worked for us because we had already been living together for two years. The timing felt right to get engaged, but we had a long engagement and got married after being together almost four and a half years.

We dated for 9 years, before he popped the big question on the night of our 9 yr annv.  I dont think there could have been any better time, I am the happiest I’ve ever been! Now only 13 days till we say I do!!

We dated for 5 years before we got engaged. It worked out because we experienced a variety of situations — a normal relationship for 2 years, a long-distance relationship for 2 years, and lived together for 1 year. We know we’re in it for the long haul!

We consider our anniversary October 2010, so from that date we became engaged a little over two years later.

We’re long distance and always have been, so our situation is different from most. That timing worked out well because we were able to have a variety of visits. It was important to us to have at least one long term visit of more than a month that wasn’t just a holiday.

We achieved that when I spent two months with him the summer prior to becoming engaged. He worked and I took online classes, so it was much more normal life than usual. We still worked well together through that, so we knew we were good for the long haul and wanted to get engaged.

We were only dating 14.5 months when he proposed, and I sort of wish he had respected my timeline and waited until at LEAST 18 months.

But he bought my ring on tax-free day, got excited, and couldn’t wait! Which is super sweet.

That being said, I also spent the first three months of our engagement FREAKING out!

we have only been together a little over 6 months. we met on match.com and were both at a stage in our life (early 30s) where we knew what we wanted and didnt want to waste time. i let him know up front what i wanted and luckily he was the one for me. (he was my only match.com date) we arent getting married until next august so by then we will have been together a year and a half. its perfect for us.

We dated almost 2 years before getting engaged. We were about 2 and a half months shy of our anniversary. It was a good length of time for us to get to know each other and for him to get over his fear of commitment. He was also buying a house in the process, so that did drag it out a little longer. But we are a little older, so we didn’t want to wait too long.

We dated for 6 years before we got engaged.  That gave us the time to finish university, get full time jobs, live together for a while and buy a house together before we got engaged.

Nearly seven years – it was a long, but very very worthwhile wait. I wouldn’t have done it any differently.

FI and I dated 25 days before getting engaged. We had come from similar situations and when we met, something just…happened. That sounds really lame but that’s the best I can explain it. We are inseparable in a way we’ve never experienced before.

We were together for 6 years before getting officially engaged with a proposal and a ring. However, we agreed to get married at around 2.5 years when we made the decision to live together. The wedding will be a few months after the 7-years-together mark. We’ll both be 29 at the time of the wedding.
