My grandmother would bring bridal magazines home from work for me to look at when I was a kid. I envisioned getting married in something kind of like this…

But frillier.

What I’m actually getting married in….

I’m still looking for the same dress I loved as a kid…a princess ball gown with a tulle skirt and sparkly bodice. 🙂

When I was younger, I wanted a big extravagant ballgown with lots of bling. I don’t have a specific picture…but something like this with sleeves:

I ended up with an all lace trumpet dress…with no bling (except for the flower sash) 🙂

I picked out this dress as a teenager:

And although I still really loved it when I was getting married, it wasn’t the style i needed for my hot May wedding 🙂

this is what I wore:

When I was a kid I wanted to get married on Christmas Eve and wear the dress Belle wore in Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas. I used to draw it over and over again in my notebooks.

Needless to say… my final vision changed quite a bit over the years.

I always thought I would wear my moms which was similar to this one but it was applicade flowers.

And I wasn’t too far off, my dad thought it was my moms dress when I first showed him the picture.

When I was younger I wanted to wear something exactly like Christine Daae’s dress in Phantom of the Opera. I loved the look of off the should necklines and something really full and feminine.

I ended up with edwina marie which is pretty close to my original vision:)

Then this season MS came out with the gown “decadence” and I was livid. It was perfect! I wished I had more lace in my gown and straps. Why couldn’t she have come out with it a couple years ago:(

When I was in grade school I was obsessed with belle and her yellow dress, I wanted a wedding dress that looked like it only white and I kept drawing pictures of it over and over. Alfred Angelos belle dress would have been my dream dress back then

But I ended up falling in love with a vintage-inspired lace dress which is better for me since I am petite and a huge ballgown would swallow me!

LOL! I’d have to scan my old pictures in as I wouldn’t have the designer names and such..

Anyway, one of them was a replica of this:

{I was thinking light blue at the time to make it look more like Cinderella’s, My Mom would have died..but I would have been *ahead* of the trend. lol}

or a replica of this:

I too was the little girl that was thinking ballgown. Cinderella brainwashed me.

When I got engaged I wanted something more form fitting …Then I had the bright idea of asking my Husband for things he liked..

Guess what he said!?

Like Cinderella….ROTFL

and this is the one I found..

I was a tomboy as a kid so I didn’t really have a childhood dream dress. I did however see Taraji Henso in the 2009 Acadamy Awards and thought – damn! That would be cool wedding dress.

But this is what I got

I think the thing that changed for me was a shift away from my teenage dream of wanting to look like a queen toward wanting to look sexy and modern. What carried over: my childhood love for satin and spaghetti straps. What didn’t: beading, ball gowns, tiaras, gloves, and basque wastlines. This is the dress I used to covet:

And this is what I’m wearing:

Can’t believe no one has mentioned this one! I was obsessed with this dress!

But I ended up with something totally different. I just bought this yesterday!
