I am unsure of what I should be paying a coworker to do my hair and make up as a trail and for my wedding.

She has some experience and went to cosmotology school but isn't like a pro. So I don't know what I should pay her should I pay her what a pro gets payed or somethings else? And what does a pro get payed?

Did she ask for payment or is she assuming you will pay her?  Did she offer her services as a gift??

Its hard to say what you should pay her.  Pro prices vary depending on area (big city is always more $$), what services you are getting done (airbrush, lashes, hair extensions etc...), and if they are traveling to your location or if its in a salon.

Maybe some how find out what she is expecting...... if she is "gifting" her services to you, then you might just want to give her a generous tip....(maybe $50?)

I will be paying about $200 for my hair and makeup. However the ladies that we hired are pretty exclusive when it comes to bridal hair and makeup so they know what they are doing. haha

she will be traveling to the place of the wedding and she says to pay her whatever I want, but I want to pay reasonable and generous. She will be doing my hair with no extensions but probably my makeup also.

$100???  That would be a decent price for both hair and makeup for a non pro (who has had training though)....

I say depends on how the trial run goes! If you love her work you may want to pay her more!

My daughter just had her trial and the stylist came to her house. She charged $50. which she said she'll deduct the day of the wedding, however, the outcome was horrible and she's doing another one where its costing an additional $25.....she's charging $125. for the hair just for the bride and $75. for everybody else. She's traveling an hour to do so.

The makeup person is charging bridal party members $50. each for her services, and $125. for the bride.

I'd like to know why the charges are so much higher for the bride. She has hair & a face like the rest of us! It just annoys me. Undecided

See how the run goes you dont want to overpay for something you dont like.... It can start from 50-75 for a pro just for make up and hair any where from 30 to 175...now if she is not a pro cut it in half but you really need to see her work first.

I got a price quote from a girl who does hair and make up $99 "family discount". Man everyone asking to profit off my wedding everywhere I go.....

I don't know how much she expects for the trial run.

Do you bees think that's expensive $99 for hair and make up?

how much a Pro gets paid depends heavily on the region ~ Big Cities (NYC, SF, LA) are very $$$$$!

and small towns will have one, $.

What you can do is do some price researching in your area, and then evaluate your friends' work (portfolio) against the pros in your area.  If she is just as good, then you pay her the pro rates~ if she doesn't measure up, then she should be charging you less.

I'm paying $100 for hair and make-up and they're both pros. Has she mentioned payment? I like the idea of the $50 tip...

Haha, $99 expensive? Not around here if you're getting makeup and an updo...

I looked it up, my salon is $100 for bridal hair, $60 for bridal makeup.

lilyfaith That's good to know that $99 isn't expensive. Well, I will save my money up and maybe I will be able to afford her.

I wish my favorite make-up/hair artist was charging $99...but its more like $600 per bridal look and since I want to change my hair and make-up between the ceremony and reception it would be more like $1200!! I have another girl in mind, but she only does make-up and charges $200.

I think you should be paying your coworker $50, maybe $75 since she's doing hair and make-up but once you start getting close to $100, you might as well just hire a pro.

My hair was $35 and that included a trial.  My makeup was $70 for the day of, and another $40 for my trial.  So I paid $145 for everything.  Neither charged a travel fee but the hotel was pretty local for both of them.

Is this coworker also invited to the wedding?  Seems weird that she'd be wanting to charge you, knowing that she'd be getting you a wedding gift and maybe a shower gift as well.  If I had a skill, I'd rather gift that.

@thefuturemrsgibbs- I thought $100 was a lot for my hair and make-up too, but I'm from a small town so I didn't think it would be much. I babysat for a girl friend when she needed a hand and made the $ in a couple of weeks though :) If she said that's supposed to be a "family discount" though I might look elsewhere... IMO unless she is amazingly good $100 isn't a discount.

I'd say JUST ASK HER! It might seem awkward, but you will feel better. If she says not to pay her, get her a NICE gift card or something (at least $50).

Bella13 Yes family discount because we're kind of like family. She used to date my first cousin then they had a baby, but they separated.

I'm going to keep looking but she will be one of my top choices.

I baby sit too, but only once a week...

    My trial hair + makeup = $40

My day of hair + makeup = $125

The gal doing both my hair and make up is also doing my 6 bridesmaids and my mother. She is also my hair gal and I see her once every 6-8 weeks. Usually she charges $165 for hair and makeup - she's cutting me a deal, haahaahaa  For all 8 of us it will be $1000

I lucked out a friend of a friend who just had a 2 babies and isnt working in the salon anymore is doing my wedding. 25.00 for hair 25.00 for makeup.

She did my hair and makeup in my best friends wedding and did a great job.

My girl who usually cuts my hair was charging 45.00 travel fee, 40.00 for hair and 50.00 for makeup/ 10.00 extra for falsh lashes.
