Hi bees! So a few months ago my wonderful boyfriend told me that over Christmas his parents gave him two diamond rings that had belonged to his grandparents (this was following our moving in together in September). He also said he had been saving for an engagement ring and had already saved ($amount that was way more than I wanted him to spend). We started talking about what I wanted in a ring and went to a few jewelry stores so I could try on some rings. EEK!!! We talked about what I liked and discussed a budget etc. He took the rings from his parents to a jeweler, who recommended that one of the diamonds (about 3/4 carat be taken out of the huge clunky men’s ring it was in and suggested some settings and quoted a price that was WAY within budget. The other diamond is worth more because the larger one has an inclusion (not visible to my uneducated naked eye). So my wonderful boyfriend and I decided to set the larger one into my ring and sell the smaller one, with the blessing of his parents. We also agreed that this discussion was all preliminary and that no engagement was imminent. I was very excited to be getting such a beautiful ring from my wonderful boyfriend, but I wasn’t in any real hurry to get engaged immediately, as we’ve only been together for a little over 2 years and only just moved into our own apartment together in April. So I put it out of my mind…at least as far out of my mind as you can in that situation! I will admit to sneaking a peak of the diamonds every once in a while…the last time maybe 2 weeks ago.
The other day we were kind of idly talking about weddings (we’ve gone to 3 already this year and have two more on deck in November and January) and his best friend’s November wedding in particular. His best friend recommended the jeweler he used for his fiance’s ring in February and this is the jeweler my wonderufl boyfriend took the rings from his parents to. As we were talking about the upcoming weddings and discussing transportation, hotels, gifts, etc, out of nowhere, he said “I hope they still have the setting I liked.” I didn’t think much of it, because the setting is fairly common: a halo with pave on the band. UNTIL…this morning I snuck another peak at the rings. AND THE ONE THAT HOLDS THE DIAMOND THAT’S GOING INTO MY RING IS GONE! The other one is still there BUT MY DIAMOND IS GONE! And there’s no possibility of it having been stolen or anything, because our apartment wasn’t broken into and our iPads and other such stealable items were all secure…and the diamond that is NOT going into my ring is still in the box that used to hold both of them!
All this boils down to…I think I’m getting engaged much sooner than I thought!
Bees, help me get some work done today instead of starting to research venues!
