Okay. I am on a budget so I can't go too much over $20-$30 per bridemaid (I have 5). I have known each of these girls for years... anywhere between 4-17. They are my life-long, best friends. I will be writing them a very-heartfelt card to go along with their gift and I want to make each of them a painted wine glass but what else can I get them? I want it to be something personal and meaningful but still inexpensive. Any ideas? I feel bad because I can't help them out with their dress (other than finding one that is less than $100)... and my mom is a hairdresser so she is doing their hair so that helps a little bit but I just love these girls and want the money I spend on each of them to go a long way and make them feel really appreciated. Help please!

you could get them all a necklace or earrings to go with the dress. if you've known them that long, i'm sure you could think of something different to get each of them that they would love - you don't have to get everyone the same thing!

Best bridesmaids gift I ever received?  Gift card to this super cool boutique with all kinds of amazing stuff!  I had a heyday as they had great accessories, clothes, and other items!  I got to pick out something that I loved and could use.  I didn't get stuck with yet another pearl necklace that would go unworn, another pair of rhinestone and pearl earrings that would sit in the drawer, another tote bag I'd never use, etc.

I like the idea of a cute clutch! Etsy has a ton of cute styles, and you can tailor each to the girls individual personalities! I do like the gift certificate idea, too.

I've always had issues with the whole buying jewelry to wear with the dress bridesmaid gift. That's really more for the bride than the bridesmaid, in my opinion.

I am also struggling with this. I would really love to be able to help out with their hair or the cost of hotel (almost all are from out of town) but it's just not feasible for me. Instead I've just given them options (they don't HAVE to get their hair done if they can do it themselves, and we are offering our house for people to stay since we'll be at the hotel both nights).

I'm most leaning towards a gift card to their favorite stores, or to a place that brings back memories for us as friends. For example, my friend in Nashville I'm getting a gift card to a restaurant we'd go to on every pay day. My sister wlil get a Barnes and Noble card because we've always loved reading and sharing books...etc. I think it's nicer to have personalized, heartfelt gifts rather htan everyone getting the same thing that they probably won't use.

I had an etsy seller create custom perfumes for each of my bridesmaids.  The seller is just running down inventory now (I think she had a baby), but she will be reopening for custom orders later this month.

It was pretty awesome because she used cool vintage bottles and spent time working with me to make sure I like all of the bottles.  I was able to assign different bottles to different girls based on their tastes.

She asked me questions about each girl and mixed a perfume custom to them, based on my answers.

It was unique and totally fun.

Here's a link to her etsy store...I don't think she has these sets posted currently but hopefully she'll reopen the store super soon.

Ok... giftcard may be a good idea. I might just make them a few nice things, pick up a few cheap cutesy things to throw in and do $20 for their favorite place... or I like the one about somewhere that has meaning in our relationship. For example- one of my friends and I learned each others whole life story over coffee almost every day at work- so starbucks and maybe a personalized mug!

Also, I just thougt of a great after-wedding gift. MYpublisher.com has $10 flipbooks with up to 20 pages. I think I might make them a little "Thanks for Being a Bridesmaid" book with pictures from the bridal shower, bachelorette party, and wedding. I was thinking of maybe doing the first page or two as a recap of our friendship and why I chose them as a bridesmaid and include some older pics.

I was going to make a photobook for our moms after the wedding and then I saw the $10 books and decided I could definately do that as a follow-up gift for my girls too... maybe even the groomsman if my groom doesn't think the idea is lame! :)

I agree with the clutch idea!  I think I'm getting my bridesmaids these:

in a neutral (probably grey) so they can use them again.  They're super adorable and inexpensive.  Dessy has some other great gifts as well!

Seriously I would just go for a cute necklace or pair of earrings they could wear for the wedding and then after. Or a piece of jewelry that just represents each of them that they don't have to wear for the wedding. I know...not the most original of ideas, but cheap and easy. Check out overstock.com. They have a lot of cheap but great stuff + really cheap shipping.

@BanditGirl: Thats a great idea! You could even give it to them before the wedding so maybe they could go to the place and get jewerly for the wedding!

@mikaylav3: I am so glad I saw this post. I love those clutches and I have been looking for some for a while. Our bridesmaid dresses are from dessy and that is a good price for them.

I read about a cool gift idea in a wedding planning book that my lovely FMIL bought for us: have your photographer take a portrait of each wedding party member and their spouse/family/date, then frame it. Chances are some people haven't had a nice portrait done in a while. Printing a picture isn't that expensive, and I love buying frames at Michael's with 40% off coupons!

I have been debating what to do about gifts as well, and will probably incorporate the picture idea if I can make it work. I thought that I could just cover the cost of their dresses (only $35 pp since I am making them) but that doesn't feel like much of a gift since it isn't something they can use again.

For those of you doing gift cards--how much are the gift cards for? Are you supposed to do around the price of the dress?

I got my girls these cute photo bags from Bed Bath and Beyond. They are on their website on clearance for $2.50 per bag. I'm also making them cute decorative hangers and total cost for that was $10 for 8 of them. I'm also making their jewelery, getting them flip flops and filling their bags with other goodies and snacks.

I have known each of my bridesmaids for a ridiculously long time - just like you - and I am also on a budget.  I am going to make them custom books on Snapfish.  I am going to get pics of us throughout the years and put them on the pages.  I plan on writing a special note in the front -in lieu of a card - and then quotes about friendship throughout the book - or maybe even little notes or comments on each picture.  Each book will be individualized for each one of my girls!!! I have started going through my pictures - but haven't actually started creating them yet - but I am SUPER excited about!

Good luck finding just the right thing!

I purchased these beautiful dupioni silk jewelry rolls as hostess gifts, but I think they'd make a lovely bridesmaids gift:

I'm having a Fall wedding, so I got each of my girls a beaded black cardigan sweater to wear in case it's chilly and I'll be putting together gift bags or baskets filled with Fall themed goodies from Yankee Candle. The sweaters were BOGO at Old Navy and Yankee Candle is currently having a clearance sale, so I think I spent maybe $30 on each BM?

how about something homemade but useful?

Buy some nice bottles and fill with homemade lemoncello and/or kahlua?  They are easy to make and can be made ahead of time.

Or do some vanilla sugar in a nice jar (just sugar with a vanilla pod sitting in it)

    Or flavored oils.

I like the candle idea.  And the Lemoncello... I think I'm also going to attempt to make each of them a clutch... but that idea will probably be scrapped because I'm lazy!

My friend makes jewelry, so I asked her to make the jewelry for each of my bridesmaids.  I'm excited and love the idea of them being handmade.  I saw the blog with the doilie tote bags a few days ago and I think I'm going to make them each one with their initials on it too.  I found some on amazon that have a separator to keep bottles from falling over when you go shopping.  In the summers in Atlanta, we used to go see a play at the park and have a picnic.  I think these totes will be perfect for something like that.

@merriment: the perfume idea seems really cool. I messaged the seller about pricing...but I am sure it may take a few days for her to get back to me...do you mind sharing whether it was expensive or not? Like I said $20-$30 would be fine. :)

If you're painting wine glasses for them why not put a bottle of wine as part of it? You can get really decent wine in the $8-12 range and you could put something else with it...perhaps chocolates if you go red?
