Yes! I don't weigh myself much, but I know that I am not as fit as I was before the wedding. I still work out and eat reasonably well, but the wedding was a great way to never miss a work out and to always make the right food choices. I am probably up a few pounds, oh well!
I'm up about 5 lbs since the wedding...I'm blaming it on the holidays! I think wedding planning made me lose my appetite because there were so many things to preoccupy my time so I spent less time cooking and eating. After the wedding I found myself cooking, baking and snacking way more often. My husband and I are both trying to focus on eating healthier and being more active
I'm a "modern wife," meaning I don't know how to cook or do most housework, but I can clean very, very well since I'm a bit neurotic with traits of OCD. LOL The poor man in my life has since lost weight too, since I'm now "responsible" for his care and his mother (who's a fantastic cook) no longer feeds him. His mother is so worried about him that she's started nagging me to learn how to cook since she thinks her baby is starving (she might be right on that one!). However, he does go home to his mother's on the weekends and gets food....so I'm thinking maybe his mother can start packing him "care packages" of tubberware food to last him the entire week. As for me, with daily stress and no longer being under my own mother's roof, I started losing weight as well. I guess I was pretty well-taken care of before! In addition, I been using the Wii Fit too, so the pounds keep coming off....I'm down from a size 2 to a size 00 in one month's time (about 10 pounds)...but now the doctor says I'm underweight and nalnourished!
I've gained about 3 and Mr. PN has gained about 10 :( We are getting back on track though!!
I'm down 25 lbs in 6 months! Woo!
Actually, no big secret to share. My migraine meds caused me to gain 35lbs in the 3 months before my wedding, so when I switched meds when I got back from the honeymoon, I started to lose the weight. Of course, it's not magic, I've had to work hard to lose the weight (losing is still the same regardless of how you gain) and be extremely disciplined with what I eat (working 80+ hours/week means I don't have a lot of time to work out).... but for me, I was just determined to lose it all. You know how before you get married you are super determined to look great in your wedding dress? Well, I never had that opportunity since I gained so much weight beforehand despite eating and working out, so the reward now is that I actaully CAN lose the weight, so instead, I am going to a wedding the weekend of my 1 year anniversary and I am motivated to look great then!
I'm really not sure how to answer the poll. I gained 15 pounds (yes - FIFTEEN pounds) when I started dating DH - as in the first two months. What can I say - he's a wonderful cook! I returned to my target weight within a couple of months by working out daily. (I was actually underweight when I met him, so keeping some was for the better. That's another story.)
Then we put on our "marriage" weight when we moved in together a year before the wedding. Sigh... But we resolved to loose the weight together!
-- Together we improved our diets and reduced our portion sizes. Once you're sharing a kitchen and meals with someone, it's much easier to make changes together. (And we realized one reason I gained so much weight was that he was serving me the same amount that he serves himself - and I had switched from my ultra-healthy diet to his more typical American diet).
-- DH joined my gym, and we started working out together. It was a smart move, because I go more frequently but DH works out longer. Plus, it didn't feel like I was missing out on time with him or throwing off our schedule by working out, which had been keeping me from the gym.
-- We actually did our own "biggest loser" and weighed ourselves each week. It was really fun to track our weight loss together - in a supporting environment. We celebrated the big loss weeks together, and comforted each other through the re-gain weeks. (Warning: he lost weight at twice the rate I did, which was a little discouraging at first).
Together, we got to our target weights AND developed a healthy lifestyle as married folks. Six months after the wedding, no weight gain!
I gained 4 pounds..... ON THE HONEYMOON! Mr. Cupcake gained 7.5, haha.... we were only away for a week! But the food at our resort was SO good, and I had been watching my weight for so many months before the wedding, that I just let loose. I don't regret a bite :-) Or a sip....
However, then I got home, was feeling lazy and loving not having a wedding to plan, and then the holidays came. So I think I'm 7 or 8 pounds up now from my wedding weight (which was my lowest weight since like senior year in high school). I know I may never get back to that weight b/c I'm sure stress had a little bit to do with my weight loss pre-wedding, but I'd like to lose 4 or 5 pounds and get back to feeling cuter in my clothes.
I gained 5 lbs and DH gained 8 lbs since we got married! We went to visit his parents and everyone commented on how much weight DH gained, so the point that he's embarrassed. I think he was too skinny before!
Oh man, I have got it on all of you... at least as far as the weight gain goes! I couldn't vote because there's polling option for what I gained! Of course, I was the skinniest, best I've ever felt at 185 lbs. (I'm 5'9" and big-boned) when we got married. And then moving in together, eating 3 squares a day, on top of cooking those 3 squares a day, all added up to me gaining about 30 lbs. in the first 5 months. Yeah, NOT good! What was really frustrating was that I had a very physically active job milking cows. It was a job where I pretty much never stopped moving (up and down steps, walking, etc.) for the entire 6-7 hour shift. And then I got pregnant and had to quit my job several months later. Yeah, if there's anyone who should feel bad about the weight she's gained in the last 15 months, it would be me! And the hubby has gained maaaaaaaaaybe 5 lbs. since we've been married.
My baby is 2 1/2 weeks old now and one of these days I'm going to break out his stroller and start walking. Well, one of these days where the temps aren't hoving in the low 20s!
I gained 20 lbs when i first started dating Mr Corn. It was because we were eating out all the time. Also, I ate like him...which was, skip breakfast and lunch and totally pig out at dinner and eat unhealthy snacks!
One I discovered that I could be my own person and eat what I wanted to eat, I started bringing my own food to his house every weekend. A practice that was made MUCH MUCH easier once we bought a house together.
It was a hard lesson to learn, but I am glad I learned it before the wedding and not after.
i've gained 5lbs over the past 2 months. i blame it on the holidays and the honeymoon!
i had my body fat % done at the gym the other night and for the first time ever, i wasn't in the good range - i was in the fair. gotta ramp up!
Of the 20 something lbs I lost before our wedding, I gained 10 back which I'm comfortable with. Knowing the holidays were coming, I kept track of what I was eating and didn't over do it. I lost 3 lbs and just felt good for not splurging.
I gained 8, but I gained it all in the two weeks after stopping birth control pills. (Yay! I gained about 8 lbs when I started and now about 8 lbs when I stopped). My body tends to have an "ideal weight" that it tries hard to keep. I can eat more or less but I tend to stay the same. (As an example, I have been 144 or 143 every morning for the past month, despite holiday eating vs. not holiday eating...and believe me, I eat.) In some ways this is good, but it's tough for trying to diet b/c I have to eat almost nothing to lose weight.
wow, I gained about 10 lbs but I feel a lot better knowing that so many people are fatties with me!! And I hate the 5% that haven't gained anything!! SADNESS!... Penguin you are so funny! However, my wedding was over a year ago and the holidays just came & went... so there's my excuse =)
haven't gained any, but husband has. i doubt he could fit into his wedding pants wearing a girdle.
my suggestions:
-stop drinking calories, they add up easier than if you chew them
-housework will burn calories, especially if you do your work to music and take breaks to dance
-avoid snacking while you cook, instead drink a glass of water
hope that helps!
My extra 5 pounds actually showed up the month before the wedding when stress eating became the norm. Four months into the marriage and I've dropped the extra 5 lbs. because I cut out the snacks and got back to regular meals. We also have restricted our dining out to twice a week for dinner, and once a week for lunch. My husband has actually lost weight continuously since he got rid of the 2 - 3 sodas a day (chemchopity is exactly right, don't drink the calories or sugars) and cut out the ice cream. The other change we've instilled is getting a second dog so walks tend to be more labor intensive and last longer during the week. Also, home ownership is a never ending project and it keeps both of us active on the weekend . . . if it isn't painting or new baseboards it is moving the attic ladder, putting in faux wainscoating, or cleaning from top to bottom.
I gained 10 and have nothing to blame it on but pure laziness. But now we've got P90x and are working it off!!
You know, a TON of my girl friends complain about gaining weight after their weddings, BUT most of them only gained back what they initially lost FOR the wedding... I dunno, is that unusual?

I think I'm at right around 5 lb weight gain since the wedding. Luckily I am jobless so I have time to work it off (if I would actually work out).
Where are you at after the wedding (the holidays didn't help)?
