Totally! I went through pretty much the exact same thinking, at first wanting a party dress with color that would be cheaper and rewearable. But then, one of my bridesmaids "made" me go and try on regular wedding dresses, and I fell in love. My dress turned out to be pretty affordable though, not really much more than I was willing to spend on a nontraditional dress (though the re-wearability thing pretty much flew out the window!) so it was fine in the end.
Completely! Being a rather pale person, I thought I would go for a lightly colored and non-traditional dress. Then I went shopping with my FMIL and found THE dress, which I tried on as a lark, figuring everyone should at least try a traditional voluminous gown. Turns out a train with bustle capabilities is lots of fun!

My original, budget friendly plan went as follows:
Step 1: Find a cute, colorful, non-wedding dress. Preferably cheap and re-wearable.
Step 2: Purchase said dress.
Step 3: Profit! (And keep my wedding cheap!)
However, after seeing beautiful wedding pictures of girls in slightly colored (Mrs. Lovebug's dress comes to mind), gorgeous dresses, my plan has come into question. I want a real wedding dress now! Never would I have thought that I'd want a mostly traditional dress, albeit in some sort of light pink or gold. I've fallen in love with Maggie Sottero.
Did anyone else do a complete 180 after starting this whole planning process?
