I haven't stepped foot into a bridal salon yet - gotta say, it's freaking me out.  Knowing myself, this process will take FOREVER.  At least, that's how finding just a normal dress is for me.  So, I'm curious how long it took you to find 'the one'

Well... including the time I did research online etc I would say about two weeks.  If we're talking time in the bridal salon, about 20 minutes.  Mine was the second dress I tried on. :)

i thought it would take me forever too. i was being very picky, i didn't see anything i liked in magazines, i was terrified of dress shopping. and then we went to one store, i tried on three dresses, and that was it.

I looked online and in magazines for a couple months but put off going to an actual salon.  When I finally did, I found mine within a half hour of walking in the first store

I looked in magazines a lot, but found my dress the first time I went out. It was the 6th dress I tried on!

It takes me forever to find one too! But I found mine within a few weekends of going to different bridal shops..you'll find one!

Started during Thanksgiving...went to 2 shops with very little preparation.  Finished during Christmas - took another 7 shops and 3 separate days with countless hours online.

At times I felt like I would never find it, but I kept looking and I did!

I tried on about 50 dresses.  That was less than I had expected.  It's a lot of fun, sometimes I wish it had taken longer.

I was just like @clarebee - i looked at tons of dresses in magazines but also found my dress the first time I went out - it was the 3rd one I tried on. I continued to try on dresses and even went to another store immediately after the store where I found it - but continuing to try on dresses and going to the other store just solidified in my mind that I had founr The one.

It seems like such a daunting task before you get started - but it is much easier to see what you like (and what looks good on you) once you actually try on a few dresses.

6 months, but I had a lot of time to kill and made myself wait in order to avoid a disastarous meltdown.

I looked online a lot before when I went and THOUGHT I knew what I wanted. I ended up with something quite a bit different but same general shape.

I found it on the first day of shopping, 2nd bridal store - 11th dress I tried on.

I waited 3 months after I found it to buy it though becuase I found it early.

Everyones different though so just have an idea of what shape looks good on your body type - relax and have fun!

I found mine on the second trip to the bridal salon. I had done research online first, and thought I wanted a Pronovias (but still open to trying on others), first time I tried on probably 15 dresses. Second time, I tried on another 20 or so, and decided on which one I liked best.

It wasn’t as bad as I thought, I could dismiss most dresses as soon as I had them partly on – I went a lot on the first impression I had of the dress, so I didn’t stand there for 15 minutes with each dress, convincing myself it “could” be the one.

First look in the mirror – love it or not? If not – next dress please!!! :)

It took me about a month.  I visited 4 stores and probably tried on 25 dresses.

I looked online for about a month and then went to three bridal salons during a two week period of time. I found my dress online, ran over to the store that had it in store and bought it that same day. So my answer is two weeks or maybe 6 weeks if you include the online looking?

For me I knew what I wanted pretty much right off the bat. I wanted a lace gown and that never changed. When I went into stores I realized that a lot of lace gowns have shiny beading all over them and I did not like that. Some girls start trying on their vision and hate it, but trying on lace gowns just re-inforced my love of lace :) I then found a designer, Watters, that makes classic lace gowns with no bling and I was sold.

1.5 months but only because I was running out of time and wanted to have a dress by the 6 month mark before wedding. If I had a longer engagement, I'd still be looking. Or had one custom made. I had a picture in my head and that dress just did not exist anywhere, drove me crazy.

I am typically extremely indecisive, but my wedding dress was the third one I tried on at the first boutique. I would also recommend that once you find the dress, STOP LOOKING!

I went one day with my MOH and tried on about 10 dresses that I did not like.  She picked one off the rack for me to try and I loved it!  The next day I went back with my mom and showed her three dresses from the day before and bought the one my MOH picked for me.  So, two days.

I did Running of the Brides in late August but didn't start really looking till mid Nov.  I'm pretty sure I know what I want but haven't ordered yet.  Have prolly tried on ~20 dress not counting ROTB (tried on another 20-30 there but HATED them ALL)

It was the first one I tried on! It was actually on the list of styles that I provided the consultant when I went shopping for the first time.

I went to a second store to try on some different styles, but kept coming back to number one....so, one day.

I started window shopping on my own in the summer.  I went to a total of five stores (but I revisited a couple of them A LOT), and when I had narrowed down my choices to the top 3 I brought out a few people (mom, BMs, my brother lol), and choise my dress in November.  The wedding isn't until Sept 2010, but I hate shopping during the winter.
