It’s yours. You own it. Take it home.

Mine charged me to store my dress!

@Astra: Walk in and say ‘Hello, I’m here to pick up my dress. My name is XX and the dress style is XX’. Then make final payments if you have any and take it home. They can’t keep it from you, it is your dress!

They want to keep the dress there only because they want to be sure you use them for alterations. But the decision on who to use for alterations is entirely up to you so say ‘I appreciate you offering to store it but my wedding’s not until next June so I’ll take it home with me now and we can schedule alterations early next year’.

@Astra:  I know, it is scary to be assertive. I myself am very shy and I have trouble being assertive. But I have found that the more you do it, the better you get. It is a skill that is needed throughout life. So look at this as great practice for the future when being assertive will really make a difference (standing up to in-laws, negotiating a better salary, etc).

What karmagirl said is a perfect script!

Honestly, I think this will probably be a non-issue. But practice everything ahead of time and feel confident!

@Astra:  Yay! Glad you got your dress home. You’ll have to post pics some time!

And it’s great that they have been tipped off now about the headband and there is still lots of time to order it in.

Keep on practicing that assertivess! I’ll be over here on my end practicing too.
