You know when you just fall in love with a vendor? After looking at hundreds of options you stumble upon their site and like a teenager you are waiting by the phone for them to call/write you back? I hope it's not just me :-)
I fell HARD for two photographers: Ryan Brenizer and Kella MacPhee. They are edgy, fun, bright, bold, and what do you know: affordable!! They are also both booked for my wedding. If you are getting married in the New England area, I highly recommend either one.
I would rather fly a photographer in from Kansas than pay 4K for a photographer I kind of like. If I hire a professional photographer, I'm looking at 3K anyhow and other areas are not as expensive as the obscenly overpriced Fairfield County and NYC vendors.
If you would, could you look at their web sites and recommend any affordable photographer in your area that has a similar style/sensibility? I don't care where they live - just in the US.
Whoa-- I was paging through that first site and saw two of my friends! (They are the ones boogieing down on the 8th pic in the documentary section.)
With that in mind, I really like Our Labor of Love out of Atlanta. If I didn't already have an awesome photog friendor, I would totally have booked them.
Hey you should try looking at Monika Broz (www.monikabroz.com) or DavidM (www.cinematicbydavidm.com). I booked Monika for my wedding not only because I LOVED her style but she was relatively affordable. I think she may be kinda what you are looking for. She's located in NJ. Good Luck!
Me too -- I fell in love with Ryan Brenizer but he was also booked on our date. We ended up going with Steven Tackeff, but I think his package might be above your budget ($5k).
Take a look at Tory Williams. www.torysphotography.com. She is within your price range, and based out of Brooklyn. Also make sure to look at her blog (linked on her website), because she has slideshows of her more recent weddings that are not included in her website (she usually posts three pictures from a wedding, and then there is a link to the slideshow beneath that).
She is really personable and fun to work with. I highly recommend her.
Try www.andreabibeault.com. Her prices are around 2K and she is very good and fun to work with. She is in the midwest though so you would probably have to cover her travel fees.
Our photographer is Echard Wheeler. He is in Virginia Beach. We just had our e-pics done and he was a lot of fun to work with. Also, our friends had him do their wedding and they said they didn't even notice him there. That was really important to us. I didn't want someone in my face all night making me pose. His website is echardwheeler.com (our e-pics are they Matt and Melanie ones).
He was recommended to me by James Ferrara who was my first choice in photography but booked my date. The link I sent you is pretty reasonable especially for the quality of his work. I didn't go with him more for technicality of not being able to meet with him face to face.
We used Emilie Sommer (emilieinc.com) based out of Portland, Me. She was really fantastic, and I think in line with what you are looking for. She may be out of your price range, but she has some associates working for her now who are less expensive but also very good. Her fiance, J, is one of them. He was our second photoprapher, and took some excellent pictures. She has posted a lot of her work, and her associates', on her blog (you can get to it through her website) so check that out. Good luck!
We're using Maria Mulenga (mulengaphoto.net) and we love her. Also try T&J Studios http://tjstudios.com/ or Rebecca Peters Photography rpetersphotography.com
T&J are a husband-wife team and they're awesome but were booked on my date. Rebecca Peters was also booked but she did a fantastic job on my boudoir photos. Of course I love Maria-- you can see the engagement photos she took of us on my blog fromdiamondstovows.blogspot.com. All three are based in Kansas but you said you were ok with travel :) Good luck!
You should ask those photogs if they have any recommendations of people who are similar is style and budget to you. I am sure that they will be able to point you in the right directon. I know I feel in love with Travis Hoehne and if he hadn't been available I totally would have asked him for referals. I bet they have them and get them all the time.
Im using a duo! You get two photographers for the price of one! Jess and Vanessa are a boyfriend/girlfriend couple. He is a Music Scene photographer and she is a Fashion Photographer so it works out well:)
I chose them cuz Im still young and I wanted fun, fresh pics. Check them out!
Try Allison @ LoveSpell. We just booked her. Her photos are GREAT and her attitude is even better! Their e-mail address is info@lovespellstudio.com and they are located in Wallingford, Connecticut. Please tell her that Elba sent you. Thanks and lots of good luck!!!
I'm from Atlanta, and just love Kelly Lewis (kellyisnice.com) and Mark Elkins (markelkinsphotography.com). They are both fantastic photographers and people!!
