I really liked the movie! Don't know if I can read the book now that I know how it ends. The Girl who played with Fire is out at our Independent Theater, and I really would like to see that! I think I'm ok with just seeing the Swedish version, I don't think the American version will be as good.
Haven't most people who liked the book already seen the Swedish version? I wonder if everyone will go see the American version too. I've read the book and seen the Swedish version so I probably won't, but who knows.
I liked the book and the Swedish version. I am actually reading the Girl Who Kicked The Hornest's Nest... it's pretty good.
I just went to the library yesterday in hopes of finding this book. It wasn't in. Bummer. I've heard nothing but great things.
FI and I rented the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and then saw "The Girl who Played with Fire in theatres a few weeks ago. I really enjoyed them. I really want to read the books! All of my local libraries have it but they are all checked out. One library has 15 copies! I think I am better off just buying it. I am dying to read it!
I hate to sound like a total snob, but I read it for my book club and wasn't really impressed. It was interesting and exciting the same way Da Vinchi Code was, but i thought all the sex made it kind of cheap. And it was also really predictable. I will not be reading the other books, but I am actually excited for the movie.
Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was good, but the Girl Who Played with Fire was a bigger page turner for me. By the time I got to the last novel, Hornet's Nest, I was speed reading to find out how it ended. It's sad that the author died and never saw this phenomenon occur. I heard they have the beginning and end of a fourth book, but it's been tied up in Swedish Courts, trying to determine who has the rights to it (family vs. girlfriend) and can write the rest of the fourth book. I saw the Dragon Tattoo and just went Sunday to see Girl Who Played with Fire in the theater. They're great, I loved them, but FI didn't like the second one because it was a cliffhanger. He hasn't read the books, but he liked the first movie. I took him over to Barnes and Noble after the movie and read him the last line of the novel to show him that's basically how the second book ends, it's more of a precursor to the third than it's own novel. I'm sure the Americanized version will not be as good as the Swedish ones. Although I'm intrigued with the girl they recently hired to play Lisbeth, a newcomer, Rooney Mara. I will go see it, but I won't have high expectations.
I started reading this about 2 weeks before my wedding and had to put it down! Too much violence. I finished it on the honeymoon though (don't know if that's any better...) I liked it, but I don't know if I'll read the next two.
I just started the book yesterday and I love it. Are the hornets nest/played with fire sequels?
Yes, the series starts with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, followed by The Girl Who Played with Fire, and ends with The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest. The first was hard for me to get into, but once I started the second, I couldn't put them all down!
@jedeve: Yeah, it is a VERY violent book. The original title was "Men Who Hate Women" and it is very apt. Unfortunately, I didn't like the last one in the series. I'm a book snob though. And when it comes to Scandanavian murder mysteries, there are much better writers in my opinion, i.e., Jo Nesbo and Henning Mankell.
I didn't like it, but I'm also called a "hater" in my groupd of friends because I hate a lot of things people love.
Can I just say that the Swedish version of the movie really surprised me? It was so true to the novel, even the graphic/violent scenes. I really don't think that the American version will be as accurate.
Also, I heard on NPR that both Natalie Portman and Ellen Page were offered the role of Lisbeth Salander in the American movie, and both turned it down because the character is "too dark."
I loved the Swedish movie versions - it didn't surprise me because the book is so graphic. It seems like their culture is not as "prudish" as ours. The American versions will definitely not match up. I don't think Hollywood can do it justice.
I really wanted to see the movies, in Swedish. Just haven't gotten aroud to it yet. I don't believe in remaking movies just for them to be in English, I can read subtitles!
I read the book and loved it - even though I couldn't pronounce any of the names or places! I was going to see the movie, but I am living in Greece with my husband, so all the subtitles are in Greek! I guess I will have to wait for the American version to come out too. I am thinking about readin some other books in the series...anybody else read them??

Did any one read the book? See the Swedish movie version? and Are you looking forward to the American version that will star Daniel Craig? I LOVED the book. I liked the Swedish movie, but I felt it left a lot out and rushed through the ending. FI hadn't read the book when we watched the movie and still really like it. I am really interested to see how this new one (due in 2011) is. Any one else?
