Good Morning, Lovely Brides!
I have been a long time lurker on this board and so I feel like I know all of you so well, and I am so excited to ask you for help! There are some seriously wise people on this board! After trying on more gowns than I can count, I think I’ve narrowed the search to two dresses! Unfortunately, I can’t decide. I was hoping that you might be of assistance!
My wedding will be in September of next year. I am 27, short and on the curvy side. I’ve always wanted a ballgown or an A-Line/Princess style dress. Our wedding is in an old bank built in the 1920’s and we have a subtle 1920’s/Old Hollywood Glamour theme for the reception. I don’t have any pictures of me in these two gowns because I just ran into the bridal store to look at them on the hanger (with no intentions of trying them on because I didn’t have an appointment and didn’t want to take away from other brides), and one of the consultants was kind enough to insist that she throw them on me in the few minutes that she had waiting for a bride who was running late for her appointment.
Now, I’m an analytical person, and I have TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE taste in fashion. Seriously, its so bad. As a person more driven by my head than my heart, I never thought that I would get *that* feeling. Yet, when the kind consultant threw me in the first dress (Pronovias Bolera), I felt a little numb (shocked, maybe). I came out of the room and, for the first time, my mom CRIED. Well, that led me to cry. The beading and the sparkle on this dress…simply breathtaking. Literally. Long story short, I thought “this is the one”, and while it is close to my budget, realistically, it was more than I wanted to spend (I said my budget was $3,000. This dress was $3100. My mom said that, if I love it, to pay whatever I am comfortable with and she will pay the rest, particularly because she wants to contribute financially to the wedding, but my fiancé and I are trying to do it on our own.) I thought that I had found the gown! Me! A non-feeler with terrible fashion taste!
Then came the tricky part. She said that she had another dress (La Sposa Eresa) by the same designer (but different line) that is really similar, but $90 less expensive. I didn’t think that I needed to see it, but she insisted on showing me. It too, was beautiful. On the rack it didn’t have the same “breathless” feel to it, but I tried it on. Now, my feelings got muddled because I was so aware of the time and really didn’t want to keep her if her appointment was there, as I know that she had not checked. I threw on the dress. Ran out of the room, stood on the box for less than a minute and then rushed to get out of it, because I really didn’t want to inconvience anyone. I really didn’t have an emotional reaction (but, honestly, it happened so fast and I was feeling so guilty about looking at more than one dress without an appointment, I wasn’t in tune with my feelings). The consultant said that she liked Dress 2 (La Sposa Eresa) better on me. I did love the shape of the bodice (it comes to a point in the front and back) and I felt it made my waist look smaller than Dress 1 (Pronovias Bolera). Also, the skirt on the La Sposa Eresa is the skirt that I’ve been dreaming of (nice and full), and it has the little buttons down the back that I have always wanted. I think that this is the dress that I’ve been looking for, but in my mind, the sparkle of the Pronovias Bolera was so stunning, I just don’t know what to do. To further complicate things, I found a bridal boutique that is having a huge blowout promotional sale. They said that they can order the La Sposa Eresa for me in the size and color I want for $2078. Thats $1,022 in savings, my friends! AND, the only other thing that I have wanted in a dress is a little bit of shimmer in the skirt. I fell in love with the skirt (only) of a dress with a tulle bottom where there was a layer of tulle with clear sequins hidden under 2 layers of plain tulle, so that there is just a peak of shimmer every once in a while with movement. I found the material and the gal who is going to do my alterations (who is AMAZING) said that she could do this for me for $150-$200 in the La Sposa, because it has a tulle bottom, but not in the Pronovias, because it is organza so it really wouldn’t show up. In theory, the La Sposa would be a combination of every detail that I’ve been looking for. BUT, the bodice doesn’t have the same *WOW* factor as the Pronovias Bolera.
With that said, Lovely Hive, I turn to you. I’ve hashed out the pros and cons a million times over, created spreadsheets and charts, formulated algorithms with my mom… it just, I don’t know! I need help. Either dress I would order in Ivory. Without further ado, I present Dress 1 and Dress 2. (Sorry, I can’t transfer the pictures of me in the dresses from my phone right now. Sad Day)
Pros: Amazing take your breath away beading, an AMAZING pop of sparkle with the silver crystals, I felt a feeling in this dress (Hooray for feelings!) The general shape that I want.
Cons: The back is a little plain, organza instead of tulle skirt, the skirt lays more flat (less ballgown like), no buttons down the back, $1022 more expensive, couldn’t add sparkle in the skirt

Dress 1 Pronovias Bolera Back
Dress 1 Pronovias Bolera Close Up
La Sposa Eresa:
Pros: The beading is still pretty, love the cut of the bodice (made my waist look smaller), love the buttons down the back, love the super full skirt, can add the subtle sparkle in the skirt (which makes it a bit one of a kind), has everything that I think that I want, $1022 less than Dress 1.
Cons: Definitely not as sparkly and breathtaking, although the crystals look silver and similar to Dress 1 in these pictures, in person they seem more flat an less sparkly, I didn’t think I felt a feeling…
Cons: I did not feel a feeling (probably as I was aware of the time), not as sparkly and breathtaking as the Pronovias Bolera, It would lead me to make another decision (add sparkle to the skirt or not)
Dress 2 La Sposa Eresa Full Dress
Dress 2 La Sposa Eresa Back
Dress 2 La Sposa Eresa Close Up
Example of the shimmer in the skirt that I could add to Dress 2 (La Sposa Eresa), although I would add the sparkle under a few more layers of tulle so that it is more subtle
Thank you gals SO much for your input! This feels like such a major decision and I feel so stuck. I am going in on November 8th with my mom and my sisters (and an actual appointment) to try both on, again, but I want to make a decision on that day and so I think I need to get an idea of which way I am leaning. I hate having to go back to these stores without making a decision- I feel like I am being mean to the consultant who is kind enough to help me. In the moment of decision making, I highly suspect that my feelings will be turned off and my brain will be fully engaged (stupid brain). I need to have a definite decision by Nov 15 in order to take advantage of the sale price on the La Sposa Eresa, if that is my choice. Eeek.
Which dress would you choose? Have you been stuck between 2 dresses? How did you choose? Also, I have only seen these two in blush- do you think they won’t be the same in ivory?
Your input means SO much to me!
Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
