So, if anyone looks through my posts the overall theme is: inexpensive, without looking or seeming cheap. So when it comes to paying anything over $50 for a cake I cringe… 1- because I only like cake batter, not cake. lol 2- it is going to be eaten, and probably not even completely and therefore doesnt need to be this extravagant, specially made thing- so I read that someone did an ice cream scooping picture instead of cake cutting. My mom even thought this was cute and she has been dead set that I must have a cake for the cake cutting picture. We were already planning on having a sundae bar and chocolate cake made by the restaurant for dessert… so we start off the dessert hour by making a banana split together, (scoop the ice cream, decorate it and feed the first bite to each other) for the pictures and have an engraved scoop as a keepsake and save $300 by not getting a cake! Yea? Yea!! What do you think, any ideas on how to make it cooler (no pun intended, well maybe…hehe)? BTW we LOOOOOOOOOOVE ice cream, I mean we could eat it for every meal, so it is more “us” than a cake. 🙂

I think your idea is cool as is. I would just be concerned about dripping ice cream on my dress (but that’s because I’m a klutz). Maybe wearing a cute little apron over your dress during the ice cream scooping (sorta like 50’s style housewife).

such a cute idea. I’m not a fan of cake either so I totally appreciate where you’re coming from.

Thanks, I was thinking an apron might be cute too!! My mom is having a fit over all of the messiness of my wedding… haha Italian food (spaghetti… ahhh!) then ice cream with sticky sauces and all sorts of fun things that might ruin my dress! So I might go with an apron for atleast the ice cream especially because my groom will be feeding me a bite. Cafe Press has some aprons that you can personalize.

I love the idea especially the personalized scoop. And thanks for the apron idea. I’m a messy eater, so I might just get one to eat in.

@Mrs. Boom: One of my BMs did this for her wedding last year. She also worked for many years at an icecream factory, so there was a personal connection (and the icrecream was free).
They took it a step further and did it as their receiving line, so they scooped the icrecream for all the guests (110). She said her arm hurt for like a week.
But if you are just scooping a sundae, you won’t have to worry about that 🙂

I love your idea!! I love when brides and grooms make things unique and fit their personality, whatever it may be! I worked in an ice cream shop through college so I think this is really cute and funny!!
Totally do it! I would love to see the pictures from it, how much fun would it be to look back on that day and think about that unique expreience you got to have with your husband!!
My SO and I aren’t cake people, more of a cheesecake and brownie couple. We’re tyring to figure out a way to encorporate it into our day, but we still have enough time to figure it out.

I love this idea! My FH and I are planning on doing this thanks to your post 🙂
Also love the idea of the apron. I’m thinking you could make it cute – as you add a topping, you can say it represents some aspect of your relationship (sprinkles represent your fun sense of humor, hot fudge for a rich future, etc). Maybe that’s too kitchy? Ideas?

@ Pilotsgirl09 -thanks. I have always been a rebel. I hate the idea of anything traditional for some reason, so I am excited. And for your wedding there HAS to be some kind of brownie cheesecake…. mmm. 🙂 you should find a way to make one if there isn’t. lol
@bunnyfoofoo– thanks. I can’t take all the credit though. I am pretty sure i got the idea on here or one of the others many sites I frequent. lol I like your idea but my general idea was to scoop the ice cream and then just go crazy with the toppings and give each other big whopping bites of ice cream, hence the apron. Let me know if you think of any cute songs to play during this. I found “Ice Cream Man” by Van Halen, but it may be a little too much. haha. There have to be more songs about ice cream, geez.

Sounds awesome! Our challenge will be that we will get married in a tiny town, a few hours from where our food will come from…

oh – I love the song “Ice Cream” by Sarah McLachlan – the chorus goes “your love is better than ice cream, better than everything else that I’ve tried… and goes on to say “your love is better than chocolate” It’s totally cute! Go check it out!
