The FI and I went wedding registry shopping for the first time last night to scope out the apple of my eye (aside from him, of course) – our wedding china!
I have dreamed and longed for china for years. I can’t wait to have a big family and get those traditions going. 🙂
That being said, there were two that caught our eye in particular at Macy’s yesterday:
1. Waterford Ballet Ribbon (or, as the FI describe it, “chocolate syrup”): http://www1.macys.com/shop/product/waterford-dinnerware-ballet-ribbon-collection?ID=183471&CategoryID=53630#fn=BORDER%3DPlatinum%20Banded%26sp%3D1%26spc%3D187%26ruleId%3D69%26slotId%3D20
The design is appealing to me, and I love how you can rotate in different color accent plates for each occasion.
2. Lenox Venetian Lace: http://www1.macys.com/shop/product/lenox-dinnerware-venetian-lace-collection?ID=203839&CategoryID=53630#fn=BORDER%3DPlatinum%20Banded%26sp%3D1%26spc%3D187%26ruleId%3D69%26slotId%3D11
I’m a girly girl, but not normally a lace girl. However, something about this collection just drips of romance. Sigh.
Now, like I said, we’re just getting out of the gate in shopping for china. I just thought it might be fun to get everyone’s opinions on these two settings – or suggest others! 🙂
Happy “almost” Friday…

I like the Waterford better, but we also didn’t register for china and I don’t personally like it, so you should listen to other bees who know more about china 🙂

I like the Waterford better personally. =) It’s simplistic and romantic.

Of the two, I think Venetian Lace is the clear winner – just lovely! I like how classic it is, but with unique detail close up.
The ballet ribbon one reads a bit busy to me, but that is likely because I prefer towards simpler designs. Our china is the Harper pattern from Crate and Barrel:
It looks classic from far away, but the close up view shows an unexpected twist:
We’ve received three place setting so far, and I just LOVE it 🙂

@sarahbabs: Oh, that is lovely! Just another reason to love C&B… 🙂

- Wedding: July 2012 - The Gables Inn, Santa Rosa, CA
I’m not a china person myself (I registered for 12 place settings of Fiesta, one in each color!) But personally, I like the Waterford– the accent plates give it more personality in my opinion.

@Countrymousecitymouse: Thank you 🙂 I’ve cried every time I’ve gotten a place setting lol. There is just something so special about china!

I like the Lenox best. We’re getting Lenox “Opal Innocence.” The Veneitan Lace just seems like a more timeless pattern to me than the Ballet Ribbon, but you should go with what YOU like!

Is price point a factor? In the experience of my sister and her friends who got married a couple of years ago, the ladies who chose higher-priced settings ended up receiving few or none as gifts and either having to complete their own sets or opt out of having china. If that’s a concern, you will probably have better luck with the Waterford.
