I am a planner. I come by it honestly, as my mother is a planner, the same as her mother before her. As soon as I said yes (okay, maybe a little before then! ;-)) I was in full planning mode!
I already had a guest list started; we were at 144 people before he sat down with me to go over the list to make sure I hadn’t missed anyone. Now, with our budget, we were under the impression that we should lower our guest count to the point that we would have about 100 attendees. We thought that this would not be a problem. We were wrong!
By the time everything was said and done (major cuts had been made!) our guest count settled at 185 people! With this count we are figuring that we will end up with approximately 150 guests. And yes, I did use my spreadsheet to track who I thought would come for sure, who was a maybe, and who we knew would not be able to make it.
This made us completely re-think our entire wedding plan (more on that later!).
How many of you had your guest count go up instead of down when you actually sat down and wrote you full guest list out?

Its on target because I knew FH had a large family. There are people I would like to invite, but we cant to help keep the numbers down.
Now if you had asked me before I met my FH, I would have said I wanted a 100 person or less wedding. Now its 185 guest list with an expected 170. (if we dont add anymore at this point)

We invited 104, 69 came. It was about 85% out of towners though (family and friends scattered all over North America). We were hoping for 85.

oh my god i love that you used spread sheets too…. mine are color coded so i know who I THINK might not come v. who definitely we know wont make it but we have to send an invititation…

I use a spreadsheet, a column for invites, and a column for expected guests. My invitations went out recently so I’m not sure what to expect.

I thought we would have 200 people at our wedding, but my parents grew up and live in a small town. Therefore, they know practically everyone. We are going to invite the full 340 that will fit into our reception venue. Whew! It’s going to be a packed house!

@eseds: I <3 spreadsheets! I even have my song list in one 🙂

Speadsheeters unite!! I would be lost without it. Got names, addresses, potential number attending and check-offs for STD sent, invites sent, RSVP confirmation and gifts given (for Thank You notes).
We drew the line in the sand at 200. We’ll send more invites than that, but we already know some definitely can’t attend. They would like to have the invitation, though.

We are inviting more than I thought we would. Mostly because there are a lot of fringe people (great aunts, church ladies) I didn’t think about. But most of those people won’t come so I’m hoping we still won’t have many more than we initially hoped for (we always said we wanted about 100, I am guessing that we’ll have 110 of the 150 we’re inviting show up)

Um only one family has said no. EVERY SINGLE PERSON that I invited besides them are coming I believe. After I hustled down the rsvps I am at 74. Yep and I thought about 50 would come…. btw my last day is the 3rd of November so I actually think we’ll be somewhere right around 100.

We wanted to invite around 180 before we sat down to do the guest list. Once we did, we came to 230, but expect only 200 or fewer will attend.

Yay yay! I’m a spread-sheeting, color-coding bee too! We wanted 100 and ended up with 146. The good news is that our venue will only hold 150 comfortably so we are done! The only thing is that we are both one of 5 children and my mother is one of 9. So after family we really only have 2 table of friends/co-workers. We’re expecting almost everyone!

Our guest list is so much longer than I expected. We planned/imagined 100 people, but when everyone sits down and writes their list, it ends up being so many! Fortunately, many of our guests are from out of town, so I anticipate a relatively low % of invitees will attend.

We had thought between 75-100. However, our list is at 158. I am not at the point yet for sending out the invites so I am not sure what will actually come but I am hoping for 125.
One thing we did though to drop the list a little was by not giving everyone a plus one. If they aren’t in a formal relationship then they do not get a date.

Spreadsheets are awesome! I’ve got a max of 200 and a target range of 150-180. My guest list keeps fluctuating. I’ll admit I use it for evil. As soon as someone upsets me, BAM…off the guest list.
