@jesssamesssa:  any chance you could go? the txes between 6 ppl is under $600 each – would you be able to make it a girls trip?

BUMMER! Can you just take the money? I used to work for a company that did promotions all the time and we almost always offered the value of the prize as an option.

@jesssamesssa:  Yikes that is a lot in taxes…but the trip did sound like a lot of fun!

Some states require them to give you the cash equivalent if requested, so you might check to see if your state is one of them. Or does you guys job disqualify you all together?

@jesssamesssa:  usually it’s direct employees family members that are disqualified, but I don’t know how they would know unless they ask. If they don’t then they won’t. I would at least find out if you can get the cash equivalent. Or if you can come up with the tax money, maybe split it up with those going, go on the trip. It sounds like a fun trip and if I were your friend that you asked to go I would come up with the 600 or so for that kind of trip.

@jesssamesssa:  How did you find out these restrictions?

Ugh that sucks!

I do wonder if they would ever find out about your DH though. I mean… are they going to do an investigation or something? That seems a tad dramatic. Maybe they wouldnt even know. But then again if somehow they did find out then maybe you’d be responsible for paying back the value of the trip. Ugh, what a bummer.

I’d do some research before writing it off and like PPs suggested, you can typically get a cash equivalent.

I don’t think your husband’s job is likely to disqualify you. And as a PP said splitting the taxes 6 ways is still SUPER cheap! I’d try to swing it!
