I usually use tampons, but I have used the Instead cup, it was forever ago though and they were really expensive.

I use the Diva Cup and I love it! (Can’t have sex while it’s in, though, because it sits pretty low and there’s a stem on the end of it). I transitioned from tampons to the Diva Cup right before I moved to Japan for two years because I had heard that most women there use pads, and I can’t stand pads. They feel like diapers to me. It took a couple cycles to get used to the cup (you have to put it in at just the right angle or you’ll leak), but I will never go back! You just empty and wash it out when you wake up and before you go to bed, and you can boil it in between periods to sanitize it. You’e also supposed to replace it once a year. It’s an environment and money saver, and better for your body than tampons (it’s made of silicone, so lower risk of TSS). It also comes in two sizes, depending on if you’ve given birth or not.

I bought some… and they’re okay. I guess I have to get the hang of wearing them.. but I think I cramp more with them in (or I’ve just been cramping more lately, lol) but they are definitely neat! They worked pretty well when I got them to sit right though. no leaking which was great.

I wore Instead for awhile until I bought my Diva Cup.  I much, much, much prefer the Diva Cup.  Now I use that + cloth pads that can be washed and reused and it has made my period a much happy time 😛

Love love love love my diva cup. So much more convenient than tampons!!!

Are there any ladies who have tried both? I actually need to buy a new one (after 5 years, I cleverly dropped it in the toilet. GG, wombat), and I’m curious if the Instead or the Diva is better.

@MissBoPeep:  They are pretty expensive, but given how much tampons cost, you make up your investment in about a year, and after that it’s all savings.

I don’t want to google this at work, but I’m SERIOUSLY curious.. how do you insert this?  And how can you have sex with it in?

Does it also act as a birth control??

@futuremrsk18:  You fold it and just stick it up.  Then it will take shape.  For the Diva Cup (I honestly don’t remember with the Instead, it’s been so long) you take your finger and go around the outside of the top, to make sure it’s completely unfolded.  Then you take hold of it and turn it – this will create a vacuum, so that there isn’t any leaking.

As for sex, I’m not sure about the Instead – I was using that before I was having sex, so it wasn’t a concern.  As for the Diva cup, you can’t have full vaginal-penetration sex, as it sits a bit lower in the canal.

No, they aren’t a form of birthcontrol.

There are actually quite a few YouTube videos demonstrating different ways to fold a menstrual cup.
