I have been totally inspired by ccranetobe & her awesome build thread, so thought I'd jump on the bandwagon too! We're building in the suburbs of Sydney (out west!) and it's been a LONG time coming. (We first signed our original paperwork back before Christmas last year!)

I'll start at the beginning with a handful of pictures & work my way forwards from there. I hope you enjoy the journey!

This was our land, when we bought it.

Our view from the back of the block:

And then... another view of the empty land!

We have always said to each other when we find a place to settle down we would build our own house. Good luck on your journey.

@teacup: Thanks, lovely lady. It's taking ages (but I'm super impatient.)

@expecting rain: Building is fantastic, I love being able to choose what we want.

Dirt. Lots of dirt. You can also see the ouline for where the slab was going to be laid. (Including our dropped garage.)

    G-wood!

ha!  just a hop skip and jump away..... i thought you were a local when you once mentioned sweetheart bridal at blacktown - or was it parramatta - either way, its not to bad out here

@eloping: Yep, we're at the top left hand side of the cul-de-sac, right in the bend. Should be good - except for car lights coming in every time someone does a u-turn in the bend. Seriously though, it's a great spot.

Yep! I forget where you are again. We're currently renting near Parra, but I can't wait to get out of these apartments. Seriously. Over it.

@teacup: Not cheating! We've JUST finished the frame and are beginning the bricks. Still a long way to go yet!

an apartment in parramatta... you're a brave girl!  i havent been to parra in ages - Castle Towers/Rouse Hill is my shopping limit outside the internet these days

i could never build our own house - i dont have what it takes, too frustrating for me

i like the trees at the rear gives you extra privacy - is it possible to change the rear fence so you can open it and get extra space without actually stealing any of the greenbelt?  we have friends that live in north westmead that did this - they now have access to this amazing amount of grassed area without actually paying for it - heck they dont even have to mow it

@eloping: Unfortunately, no. That tree belt is there because it's on school grounds - there is a Catholic primary school to the rear of our block. Thankfully, we back on to the FAR side of the school, so there's no crazy noise. But if we ever had kids that go there, it would be awesome to have a gate! ;)

@eloping: hahaha.. easy to drop 'em off/pick 'em up, though? ;)

In all reality, there is another primary school a few streets away that any future Jaguars will likely go to. But that's a LONG way away yet!!

And just today, we got the call that the bricklayers have arrived (as of yesterday) and are getting ready to start the outer bricking. How exciting!

You can't see much progress yet - but check out the pillars. I see bricks!

You can also see some of the upper windows, etc. :)

It was about to rain when I visited. Very, very dark.

Hopefully the next few weeks will have more progress!

@eloping: It feels like forever! Though really... everything started happening just after the wedding. So three months, we got a slab and frame completed.

Let's hope the bricking and roofing gets done quickly!

That's sooo exciting!  Can't wait to see it when it's all done.  Have you started picking things out for the interior already like flooring, paint, etc?

@Lillindy: We sure have! Last thing left to do is picking out a driveway colour & the outdoor porch/alfresco tiling.

Indoors is going to be timber floorboards with beige carpets in the four bedrooms.

The Jaguars Build a Home! : wedding IMG 1623

And the interior.. I wish I'd taken more pics, but here's a handful. (We're practically mimicing the display home.) Our walls are more of a beige (these ones look a bit yellowed) but the kitchen will be white & benchtops a similar colour. We moved the sink over to the benchtop on the right hand side so we could convert the middle island into a breakfast bar/prep space. :)

im jealous - i would LOVE a bigger kitchen with fabulous new stove but our house is older and it would be cheaper to knock down and rebuild than remodel the house

@eloping: The kitchen is lovely, I have to say. It opens out into a nice living area and dining area. All open plan. Swoon!

@PasteMoo: Thanks! We are so excited.

Just noticed today that the windows aren't the ones we ordered though - we wanted ones that slide across (those ones pictured roll out) to let more air through... so might have to chase that up with the builders tomorrow.

    @ccranetobe: You're my inspiration, lovely!

We're building through Allcastle Homes - this is the link to the home we've chosen. Ours will have a slightly lower garage to the left hand side (due to a slope on the block, they had to drop it down) but it should still look fairly similar. :)

Our goal is to keep the indoors looking almost identical to the display home shots you can see on the website. Hence the timber flooring! Love it.

It's a 4 bedroom place with 2 bathrooms & an ensuite and fits our weird, kite shaped block well. Our block is 550m2, so not huge - but it gives us a decent amount of backyard. We wanted a single story but we didn't want to compromise on space.
