@KatieLu:  Yea, the Knot says a lot of crap like that. I stopped using it. We sent ours out 8 weeks before.

I’m sending mine out 3 months before only because I need an exact count two months ahead of time for chairs and tables.

I sent mine out early – about three months before – because I wanted most of them back by now, SO glad I did.

I’m planning to send mine out much earlier.  Wedding in October but 50% of the guests are out of town.   I’ve set the RSVP date for Sep 1, and plan to send out the beginning of July.

We sent ours out 8 weeks before. I think 3 months is a little excessive unless it’s over a holiday weekend. I would forget about the wedding!

I don’t think 3 months is really that excessive…some of our vendors require a final head count at least a month prior, plus you know some people will be lazy and not send the rsvp back by the requested date…

If you have a destination wedding, people will have to save up money to go there. So the  earlier the better.

But if you have a local wedding and everybody’s local, 8 weeks is enough time!

I sent mine out 6 weeks before, but we only have 40 guests- everybody coming is someone we speak with regularly and they know the date and place.  Invitations were a formality.

I actually have a close girlfriend not coming because she’s visiting family out of the country that weekend (she knew the date before she booked the trip).  I felt bad about sending them out so late for about 5 minutes, before I remembered that she had just asked me about the wedding two weeks prior.

I sent mine out 10 weeks before. I need a final count for the caterer 3 weeks in advance.

@bells219:  That’s a bummer. It’s hard to know all of the factors involved when people make decisions like that. 🙁

We’re sending ours out 8 weeks before! I’ve never received an invitation any earlier than 6-8 weeks before a wedding.

ETA: I should also mention that we sent save the dates 6 months before, so everyone already knew the date.

I was confused by that too so I sent mine out 10 weeks prior. I didn’t send STDs plus my wedding is like 1.5-2 hours away from everyone, so I thought people might need a bit more notice.
