I think the scale is sliding depending on the designer, but I’m not positive.  The knot is really cagey about it.  My gut says that they’re in $500 increments, but it’s been a really long time since I formulated that theory…

I have no idea! They used to list it, and recently they stopped. I was wondering that for bridesmaids dresses earlier.

Hmm that’s weird.  You used to be able to click and figure it out.  This is what the FAQ on the Knot says.

Prices of bridal attire can vary widely for any number of reasons. We do our best to help you know what to expect. The Knot dollar sign codes are intended to give you a general idea of which outfits will most likely fall within your budget.

  • For more specific price information, click on the gown you like for a detail view. From the detail view, click the PRICE link for a breakdown of what the dollar signs mean.

  • Keep in mind that price ranges on The Knot do not necessarily reflect taxes, shipping and/or rush charges, fittings and alternations, or custom work. Also, prices are based on average sizes; there may be an extra charge for petite and plus sizes.

  • NEVER assume prices on The Knot are exactly what you’ll find in your local shops. You could spend less, and you can always spend more.

  • Questions? Always contact your local retailer or the designer for exact price information.

the knot magazine dress edition had the prices listed, but i threw it out! i was so annoyed when i realized that i wanted to know what the heck the prices were of the dresses that i had cut out of the magazine were.

ok, so i went and looked a bit and i think that the $ = less than $800. you can kind of figure out the pricing based on the J.crew styles, since they definitely post their prices and they don’t change! hope that helps! even the most expensive dress on j.crew ($2,995) is still a $$$.

According to this sticky post on The Knot, for dresses:

$ Very Affordable ($600 or less)
    $$ Affordable ($601-$1500)
    $$$ Moderately Expensive ($1501-$3000)
    $$$$ Expensive ($3001-$5000)
$$$$$ Very Expensive ($5001 and up)

I have not found a key to prices for other items.  And I hasten to add that it is The Knot, not me personally, who thinks that $1501-3000 for a dress is only “moderately” expensive.
