@FutureMrsJohnson_:  We had ours in August at my parent’s house.  We invited friends and both sides of our families…   I cooked the food (tacos).. it was totally low key and a fun night!

We got quite a few gifts (mostly bottles of wine!) some people didn’t give gifts. I wasn’t expecting anything so the gifts were a bonus!

@FutureMrsJohnson_:  my mom threw one for us. She rented out a little party hall, brought all kinds of food either family made or food trays from grocery stores. My parents are divorced, but both me & my FI’s whole families were invited. We also invited the friends we would have in our wedding party as well as the ones we knew 100% would be invited to the wedding. You dont want to invite anyone who you know or might think you wont invite to the wedding. We didn’t receive any gifts, and didnt expect any!

@FutureMrsJohnson_:  Engagement parties aren’t usually gift-giving occassions, but some people will still bring one, or a card.

Have you asked your Grandma how many people she can afford to host? That would be a good starting point for considering your invitation list.

@FutureMrsJohnson_:  My parents threw one for us at their house.  It was a backyard BBQ, very low key.  She invited our local family members (who will definitely be invited to the wedding) and our closest friends (who are in our bridal party).

We asked that my mom add “Engagement gifts not required, just your presence” to the invite because we didn’t want gifts either, but we still got some anyway.

My parents are hosting an engagment party for us in March. It’s at a winery and we are having wine and appetizers. My parents are paying for it and we are only inviting family and close friends. Since my family is all in Boston it is mostly just my FI’s family and our close friends. I don’t want or expect any gifts. I just want all our friends and family to come out and have good conversations and enjoy the drinks and food.
