I love this thread <3  Marquise is my favorite shape too! My husband just upgraded my original .57 marquise, and while I was stone shopping I considered all the shapes but I couldn’t get over how common they all looked. In the end I stuck with the marquise because I wanted a ring that didn’t look like every other ring out there- especially since we ended up buying the bands from a big jewelry store (other people likely have the same or similar bands, so why not pair it with a stone you never see, right?) Just picked up my new 1.7 ct sparkler last night so the excitement hasn’t worn off yet 😍

I am loving everyones marquise. I just got my beauty back from the jeweler. I had him cut a notch out of one of the prongs so I can put a band with it, yey. And now I cant stop starring at it again because of course she is all polished and clean.

FTeegardin :  OMGOSH your ring is gorgeous. I recently upgraded too, from a 1.37 round to this 1.52 marquise. I know yours is almost a quarter bigger than mine but it looks tremendously bigger. You have a very pretty diamond that looks huge 🙂 I agree with how rare and unique the marquise is, and that along with its colorful history is why I was drawn to it too. Here is mine. Do you find that capturing your rings true beauty in a picture is impossible? No picture even remotely comes close. ugh. lol. Oh and excuse my disgusting man hands LOL

tbenjamin4884 :  I really like the side view of your ring! Did you have the top prong notched out to have it fit flush with a band?

redearthlady :  It sucks because the pic posted itself sideways lol. But I just was having a super hard time fitting ANYTHING with this ring. I had my jeweler take a notch out, so the v shaped prong closest to my hand has a slight notch taken out, honestly I thought he would have made it bigger, and he said if its not big enough he will take more out, but I went to Helzberg at the mall and tried on a couple bands and they seemed to fit well, I don’t want nor can I afford an expensive band with tons of carat weight so I think it will work well, but this is the first time I was able to actually try a band on and it look normal. Before the notch trying on bands took the gap to a whole new level LOL. When I get a band I will post pics I will flip it around and take a pic on the side without the notch too, to show the difference. Can you see the notch in the pic? I was trying to show it.

tbenjamin4884 :  Yes you can see the notch well and I actually think it is a brilliant idea and the perfect solution to having a flush fit without having to have custom or curved band! I can’t wait to see the band you pair with it!

redearthlady :  I just really didn’t want a curved band. When I see others with them, I think they look so good, but when I try them on I just don’t like it on me. The marquise is tricky. I would have prefered it to be set much higher, I just like it perched up there LOL. But my jeweler suggested with a marquise that it be a little lower because they are susceptible to being whacked more often. I value his opinion, he does mostly custom work, and this was a nice alternative to having the lower set ring. The beauty of our diamonds (all diamonds, but especially marquise) we can reset them at any time and customize them however. Like what FTeegardin said, She put her super unique marquise in a non custom band yet still gives such a unique and custom look. LOVE IT.

tbenjamin4884 :  Your right. You just don’t see them often anymore. It’s a classic ring but the shape gives it a twist.

redearthlady :  you’re so very right! Am I losing my mind, but have I seen your ring. We have had dialog previously and I feel like such an ass because I feel we have discussed this whole bad debacle before? I am a marquise posting maniac so I could be mistaken. Forgive me? LOL. Post your ring give me a refresher lol

tbenjamin4884 :  Thank you so much! Yours is beautiful as well!! They are probably really similar in size. I think mine is about 11.5mm?  My fingers are very short! In fact I used to have a second band, one on top and one on bottom. I had both bands unsoldered when I took it in to replace the stone, and it’s much more comfortable now to wear it with just one. A second band sort of made it eat my finger up, haha!  And yes, you are absolutely right: it’s hard to capture the beauty and sparkles in a picture, especially with a phone!

FTeegardin :  I do not know specifics of mine, only color, clarity and carat lol. I would definitely say yours is every bit bigger than mine as it appears. Mine I do know is very proportionate to a decent cut, at least that is what other personnel at jewelry establishments have said when I am band browsing LOL. I do not know the measurements that are meant to be a super perfect cut to begin with so its hard. But I have held it up to to 1 carats and mine does look bigger, but this is the first marquise I ever owned. To be honest I LOVE it. I cant wait to find a band! I am glad you did the “solitaire” with one band it looks perfect and it lets the stone stand out. Your ring is gorgeous and what a beautiful upgrade.
