Oooh man. Well, after my wedding I spent 8 days in the DR then 8 days in the UK gorging on butter and junk food and conference goodies. Gained like 4 pounds. Then i started eating more carbs (omg i can eat food again!) and laxing on the gym a little.
I'm up 7 pounds.
Now i didn't lose a ton of weight persay but i toned up big time. I was a good 165 for my wedding. I'm like 172-173 right now.
Back down to 165 I go. Lots of cardio to peel off the fat that's chilling on my muffin top, but i won't go toning excessively like I did for the wedding. I was obsessed with my back and arms =].
DH is about the same as always. Stupid magically fast metabolism.
I'm doing the self goal of 350 minutes of cardio a week. Alas, I can only realistically hit about 300. In fact, I am taking today off! I'm so sore! But it feels good. I'm eating healthy again too. I had my binge fix and now i'm going towards what my trainer says needs to be my happy medium.
Ive gained about 5lbs since living with Hubs. Not a ton, but I weighed like the same thing forever and I can totally tell that my pants are tighter and stuff :( Buying my own food (and having the money to do it and an abundance of places to eat since this is NYC as opposed to when I lived in NYC) ive gained some weight... I used to be REALLY good about stopping eating when i was just not hungry anymore instead of going until I was full. But now that there is so much yummy stuff... Boo.
This is why i told DH no chips or other "junkies" in my house. He doesn't get that I don't have self control like him =]
I've tried getting the junk food stuff in the house before, but then the following week at the grocery store we end up loading up because I feel deprived :p I was buying Oreos like every week at the store at one point... Hubs HATES oreos so i was eating them all myself... I cut that habit down, but I have such a horrible, horrible sweet tooth!
I also just really enjoy cooking for my husband. It makes me feel domesticated, though we are in the same city condo as we have been for the past 3 years. I just have been having a great time eating everything I can get my hands on and using all our new kitchen stuff.
I can't just eat a salad when I have all these new organic pots and pans to make carbs and protein with!!
Oh yeah that's a bad cycle! I look at it this way--junk food is expensive and provides no nutritional value. If i don't buy junk food, i'm justified in buying clothes later.
i'm just grateful i dom't like chocolte! i do like to bake. Then i bring it into work tho
new kitchen gear? I LOVE IT.
ohhh. such a good post!!! I have gained a solid 8 lbs since my MAY wedding...terrible, I know. It just so easy to skip the gym and snuggle with him or go for a walk to get ice cream. And now my pants are getting tight! LOL!! This post really comes at a great time because last sunday, he and I looked and each other and decided the madness had to stop. he has gained like 20 lbs since the wedding. so all this week (except his bday yesterday), we have been eating better (no junk, no sweets, no treats), and consistently hitting the gym (we get up at 5 to go before work). being a bum is so much more fun, but i would hate to have to buy a new wardrobe...
I'm feeling the weight slip on slowly but surely. I'm probably 5-7 lbs heavie I just want to spend my evening cuddled on the couch with my new husband instead of out running!
Most couples I know have gained 10-40 lbs very shortly after marriage and I really don't want to be that couple! I hope this wake-up will give me motivation to get my butt moving again!
While I have yet to marry ... 40 or so days left ... we put on and lost weight pre-wedding .... wonder what will happen after? LOL.
We've been working so hard!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh no! 40 pounds would scare me. I always remind myself it's easier to catch the weight gain at <10 pounds than when it gets over 10! I'm worried when DH comes home i'll be too tempted to stay in with him! I'll be trying to make him go with me tho =]
actually I've LOST 30 pounds!!! BUT...that being said - I've been "obsessed" with my health & weight for YEARS...and 2 years ago I found out that I am "insulin resistant"...I was a huge believer in the low-fat diet advice - and realized this year that - for me and the way my body metabolizes carbs / insulin - that I should be on a low-carb diet...
So I finally took my doctor's advice (yup - my doc told me to do it!) and at the beginning of the year - January 04 to be exact - I changed my eating habits and quit eating processed foods, sugar & grains. Basically I eat a high-fat, moderate-protein, low-carb diet consisting of whole foods - meats, eggs, cheese - TONS of vegetables - fruits, nuts, little bit of dairy (no milk unless it's non-homoginized) - and if I eat "baked" goods I make them at home from coconut flour or almond flour.
(and a great 'side effect' is that now I'M the cook in the house! I've come to LOVE cooking since I have to basically cook everything from scratch and don't eat 'convenience' foods).
also - as a side note - I'm responding to this having been married now (legally, just no one in 'real life' knows...) since April of this past year (due to insurance reason)...but we moved in together 4 months after we met (February 2007)- and yes - after I moved in with him - I gained 27 pounds. So I CAN relate as far as JUST moving in together goes...but back then I also didn't realize that I had "insulin resistance" and of course - since living with him was new - we ate out a LOT and ate junk food.
But once I was trying to lose weight again - about 6 months after we moved in together - I couldn't lose no matter what - went to the doc - got diagnosed - and it took me ANOTHER year to listen to her! lol. thankfully I didn't gain anymore though.
for me, I am just SO happy I finally realized what kind of diet I needed to change to in order to stay healthy for the long term. I will NEVER go back to any other way of eating.
good luck!!
Yup, I'm up somewhere between 8-10 pounds since my wedding in May. I do think that I was losing some weight just before the wedding because I was so busy and stressed out. We lived together before and often go to the gym together, so there's no excuse for this! ;) We actually talked recently about it and we both want to refocus and drop this extra weight.
Sadly, I have not looked at the scale since the wedding but I am sure to be in between 5 -10 lbs. I noticed a difference but the clothes still fit, lol, so I am not too bad.
I actually want to be more active before the kiddies start coming then it will be harder for me to shed the unwanted pounds.
I weighed myself this weekend and have gained 5 lbs since our wedding in June. The weight doesn't bother me so much, but since I've practically stopped working out, I've lost a bit of my muscle definition! I promised myself that I'd stick to my workout routine after the wedding, but with moving and starting graduate school, my old healthy habits have vanished! I know the longer I wait the harder it will be...but I'm having a hard time getting motivated...
I have only been married for 1 month and I feel like I have gained some extra LBS! Who knows? I haven't weighed myself; DH has been pretty good about running 5x a week still (he took up running probably 3 months before the wedding to drop some weight and lost about 15 lbs!). Unforunately, I fell into the camp where I gained quite a bit of weight before my wedding. I used to be a workout-a-holic; working out 3.5 hours day between one morning and one evening workout session 6, if not 7 days a week. Then I started dating my now-DH. It took a while, but by the time we were engaged 1.5 years later I had gained probably 30 lbs., fast forward to right before our wedding and I had gained 55 lbs! I stopped my daily workouts, and towards the latter months stopped working out at all! OUCH! So now I am fed up (I blame being a stressful eater a little, and my DH a little bit too as he is a crazed pizza and french fries fan - I would never even look at those foods before!)
I am 5'9" so luckily don't look too bad after the weight gain, but would love to be back down to the 130! I don't have as much time as I did 2.5 years ago, now working 50 hour weeks at my full-time job, but that isn't an excuse. I refused to even wear shorts this summer!
I gained about 10 lbs post wedding. :( But I'm on week 2 of P90X to get back to fit!
I was an other - I haven't gained any weight, but I didn't really lose any for the actual wedding. I did briefly lose 5lbs after the wedding because I didn't eat anything on the honeymoon (picky), but I'm fairly sure that's come back and I'm at normal pre wedding weight.
There is no choice for "No." I wonder if it has something to do with brides who change their fitness regimine in preparation for their wedding day. Like saranightly, I never lost any weight (at least, not on purpose) for the wedding, so I don't think my weight has changed much after it.
But I don't own a scale, so I'm not really sure. We registered for one, but no one got it for us ;__;
I am up about 5 lbs from the wedding. It has pretty much been a bad set of circumstances. First, we moved into his parents house in preparation for moving to the other side of the country. Then moving across country and then getting into a car accident the month later. Now, I don't have a car, not to mention the fact that the gym that I have access to because I'm a student is 20 minutes drive away versus the 5 minutes it was before. Hopefully, once I get a replacement car I will be able to go back to the gym more often, even though it does mean driving more.
I have definitely gained weight since the wedding but I dont know the exact amount. I would guess around 5-10 pounds. I know I need to work out but have no motivation or money to join a gym, Ill probably start doing wii fit more often :)
There was no option for 'no'! I've lost weight since the wedding for a variety of reasons. One is that I went back to the gym - I hadn't been there all summer because I get a free membership during the school year. Another is my dress - I'm generally a 10 but ordered an 8, and the 8 was BAGGY! Glad i didn't order the 10. I didn't want to get it altered, so instead I just tried to be the right size for the dress (which was a little bigger/heavier a size than I generally like to be). I've lost about 5 lbs since the wedding.

Has anyone else gained a bunch of weight since their wedding? I wasn't sure if I should post this in fitness or newlyweds. I figured I post it here, because this is more of a vent/reflection post. I'm not really in a rush to get back into the gym
.
I have been steady at least 8 - 10 lbs over my wedding day weight. The Hubs has about 15 lbs. Our bellies are looking like we are definitely eating, drinking, sleeping and watching reality tv. Not so much the half-marathon running engaged couple of only a few months back.
Can others relate? Or am I just using my newlywed status as an excuse to be LAZY!!!
