When you first moved in with your SO, what were you most surprised about? Maybe it is something about living with him/her that recently surprised you?

I was most surprised at his inability to multitask. I guess I should have noticed earlier but literally he cannot walk and chew gum at the same time!

I was also surprised at how long he spends showering and getting ready. Really? Move faster!

This is TMI but I was really surprised at how long he spends on the can. He sits there playing games on his phone. I mean really?! Are there no other more comfortable places to sit in the house? Just strange...

LOl this is funny... Mine is how long he is on the can as well with his phone playing games or downloading music and how long it takes him to get ready. He takes longer than me.

I also noticed before bed he takes forever. He lotions up because he has dry skin.. its like a whole process. It gets annoying when I am waiting LOL

@baldor1: I think every man is like that. Oh lord.

One thing he does that makes me crazy and I couldn't have known about before we moved in together was that typically about 5-10 minutes before guests come over (whether just another couple or a big party) he goes to take a shower. And like Baldor says, I don't know what he does in there, but he's gone like FOREVER. He does it most often when it's his friends coming, and then I'm stuck entertaining his friends for a good half hour before he comes out. It's like he wants to be fashionably late, it makes me INSANE.

I don't think anything really surprised me.  He throws socks everywhere, but that's not a big deal, who cares? To me, living together wasn't really about finding out "habits" like being messy etc.

It was important for us to learn how to work together, figure out how we relate to each other and the outside world as a team, respond to each other's needs, etc., on a daily basis.  I think we've really fine-tuned a lot of these communication skills that will help us in our marriage.  This is why I can't imagine marrying without living together first.

Baldor - me too!!!   How long, but also, how often! I have to say, that was the MOST surprising and annoying thing I discovered about him.  Seemed like every time I turned around the first few months, he was in there (especially if we were about to leave, or I needed his help with something, lol).

LOL I'm glad I'm not the only one with a man like that! It's like he never leaves the bathroom! I swear like you said everytime you turn around he's in there! LOL..  And he takes way longer to get ready, he changes his outfit at least 3 times, but it's fun cuz I can tease him about it!

I think its a guy thing! They all love to be in the bathroom!

I think mine was how little he washes his clothes. He washes under shirts, undies & sox but everything else he NEVER washes! Sometimes i have to sneak things in w/o him seeing them just to was them!

hahaha these are too funny.  I'm trying to think of something that annoys me, but I don't get annoyed easily.  I think something that might bug most people is he throws his work clothes all over the living room and takes his socks off and leaves them in front of the stairs till he gets up to the washing machine.  But that's not even that big of a deal.  He's the tidy one between us!!!!

EDIT - I just realized the title was the most SURPRISING thing, not annoying thing, so probably the most surprising thing is that he's not like some men I've known or heard others complain about.  He doesn't spend much time on the can, he always closes the bathroom door and leaves the seats down, he doesn't drink out of the milk cartons, etc. and he's the one cleaning up after me

OMG.  Do ALL men take forever to get ready?  I cannot believe how long it takes FH to (a) get up, (b) shower, (c) get dressed, (d) eat breakfast, (e) make sure he has everything he needs...  Agh.

@stephanie63087: Mine too! SO seriously goes through so many clothes, it's insane! We are constantly having "laundry dates" while we catch up on DVR.

@Dragonsus: Same! He has to make sure that the toothepaste is always capped, the kitchen area is neat and the wood floors are swept..HOWEVER, he leaves his clothes everywhere. He can never seem to find the laundry basket lol

When we moved in together though one thing I was pretty surprised about-- how great of a cook he was! I was used to guys not knowing how to cook anything besides pizza bites and ramen noodles, but he makes our dinner almost every night!

I am in the "He Takes WAY TOO Long to Get Ready" section too. How is it possible that it takes him longer than me to get ready when all he has to do is shower, get dressed and throw some gel in his hair when I have to shower, blow dry my hair, get dressed, accessorize, do makeup and I'm still ready first??? Boggles the mind.

It was surprising to me that a grown man who had been living on his own for nearly 10 years does not know how to load a dishwasher. He'll put wineglasses under pots and pans, or plates in the top rack. It drives me NUTS!

He's cleaner than I am!  Well, in some ways!  It has inspired me.  He takes forever in the bathroom and he sneezes so loudly- it is like a shout.  And, I had to train him not to bang dishes around.  (I think the poor dear is hard of hearing ! :/  )

@mishelleez:  YES!  My husband almost never washes his clothes!  It's the weirdest thing.  He also has ONE shirt that he puts on EVERY DAY when he gets home.  It's gross!  I've started putting it into my laundry, just so that when we snuggle, I know it's clean.  :)

I'm surprised by how much he caters to me.  He always made dinner and cleaned up when I was staying with him on the weekends but I thought that was him playing host.  No, it turns out he just likes to make dinner everynight and be the one who cleans things up..  Who knew.

I was surpised at how hard it was to share a bed with him!!! I mean, we used to sleep at each other's places all the time before we moved in together and I never had too much of a problem with it, but once it was an everyday thing, I started to really noticed and missed the space I used to have to really stretch out to sleep!

@Rocktsrgn: HAHA FH has after work clothes too! In the summer the same ugly smelly shirt & shorts and the winter the mullet (its a half sweatshirt & half sweater cardi) and sweat pants! I keep hoping they'll get holes soon!

    @sahsabahs: Haha! Lucky you!

This question came up because my friend was moving in with a boy for the first time and asked me what it was like to live with him especially when it was that time of month. I was like well, no difference.

But I wanted to know what surprising to all you ladies about living with your man. I am surprised how many men take a long time to get ready! I guess we can shatter the myth that women take longer than men to get ready!

My guy isn't a typical guy in the sense that he doesn't stink up the bathroom or sit on the toilet too long. He cleans up after himself (even if it takes a little longer than I like) and doesn't hog the TV. He makes me dinner and runs errands for me and lets me have my alone time. He doesn't take too long to get ready, but

HE TAKES THE LONGEST SHOWERS IN THE WORLD!!

LOL! How lucky are you ladies who are only surprised by how clean and helpful their SO is!?!
I was surprised and kind of shocked at how much my FI farts! He and the dog have teamed up and are trying to stink me out of the house.
I was also surprised by the amount of clothes he has. His laundry pile is usually 3x the size of mine at any given time. He literally has hundreds of t-shirts!

I guess I was surprised at how "lazy" he actually is. I put quotations around it because he's not REALLY lazy perse, but I use to think he was ALWAYS busy doing something important, and constantly going, going, going, but in reality he sits on the couch a lot watching TV or "fixing" things. Not a handy man, but fixing the internet when it's not working or on the phone with ATT or setting up the wii.

And I am another Bee whose SO spends a lot of time in the can. Him and his playboys....lol

    The farting lol.

And needing to tell me gross stuff.

Our cleaning/messy habits are totally different - I tend to be tidy with slight clutter, but I don't have patience for cleaning for long periods of time. He throws things around to the point where it looks like a hurricane went through the apartment, but then he'll clean for three hours straight.

Hahaha! These are too funny.  All I can say is I was surprised by his ability to go through so many clothes in such a short time.  It was also interesting to discover that he will sit in the bathroom forever before bed.  I don't think he's going to the bathroom; I honestly think he's primping and grooming himself.  Not much that bothers me, but was more of little nuggets that baffled me.

The most surprising part to me is that he actually mirrors my actions around the house....if im messy he starts being messy...if i pick up everything he keeps everything neat. The thing is I thought he was a pretty neat person and im kind of messy...but now he just does what I do. It kills me! Do your own thing damnit! haha.

My guy is always losing something.  ALWAYS.  His keys, his bluetooth, his wallet, EVERYTHING.  I have a tray by the front door where he can drop everything when he walks in.   He rarely uses it.

    Sigh...

I bet this is going to sound cheesy as all get-out, but I have no complaints. He was married once before, so he's well trained :-) I love that he does chores and I laugh constantly since we moved in together. He is constantly doing goofy things (and not stupid/annoying goofy either) that make me laugh. It's like living with your responsible, childhood friend. Since it's just us and our puppy, we are constantly goofing around with each other. I love it! Oh, and we've been together for 3 years.

@mishelleez: Oh wow - me too! Trackies (translation - sweat pants) and hoodies never get washed apparently "but i have only had them on for a few hours" - doesnt work when you have worn it everyday for a few hours!

But it is my things that i think shocked him - I will happily leave my wet towel on the bed while im getting ready and take it back to the bathroom on my way out - drives him nuts! I also happily sit around in the sun reading for like 3-4 hours, drives him batty doing that but he will happily play PS3 for that long :-)
