I can't really say how long but I've started before the Holidays, and I'm still not done. I have to get this finished before the end of March though! That's my goal!
@cant.wait.to.be.mrs.d: I didn't have to worry about this for the wedding b/c DH and I were solely in charge of the list BUT have dealt with this time & time again with events I've done for our Non-Profit....
The sad truth is people will take as long as they see fit unless they have a DEADLINE!
I would send an email out or make calls to those you're waiting for lists from and let them know that your Save the Dates are in and you need addresses by "said date" so that you can get them out by the time according to your planning timeline.
Then check in every few days to see how their list is coming.=)
@amnystik: The deadline is a good idea. It's just tiring. I've asked for lists a few times, but no one understands my ocd sense of urgency!
If it makes you feel any better I have only 4 addresses out of roughly 200 people so far. I have a little ways to go still though. I am going to collect them slowly as the time goes by.
@cant.wait.to.be.mrs.d: I thought it was going to take me forever to gather addresses, but luckily FI's cousin got married last year so we got their list. Which covered half of FI's family, and my FMIL is super organized and has almost everyones address, so that helped too. So what I thought would take months actually only took a few days.
@Sweethart: I'm so jealous! My sister is getting married in May, so I thought that she would already have them all put together but no such luck! I don't see how she can wait so long!
@cant.wait.to.be.mrs.d: I started panicking when I hadn't started compiling addresses the first week of February, now I'm basically done. Of 185 guests I think we have to get 6 more addresses. :)
I sent out our STD's a moth ago and my FI is still giving me peoples addresses he was planning on inviting. Its annoying, but as long as we get the STD's done by a certain time I will be happy. Though it would be nice to be done collecting addresses and such, so that I can start paying more attention to other parts of the wedding plans! :)
@cant.wait.to.be.mrs.d: WOW, I could never wait soo close to my wedding to get addresses like your sister. I plan to be doing so much other wedding things, that I would never have the time for that. Plus Im not one of those ladies that wait and wait to get things done. If I can do it now, I will. No reason whatsoever to procrastonate! :)
My fiance is so busy with work and school and his parents are in the process of moving, so getting addresses from their side has been a little tricky. My future brother-in-law and one of his aunts have offered to help, God love 'em. I'm only waiting on about 6 now!
Ugh the address list...My sister got married last March so I got her address list. Looking at it made me realize why no one showed up at her showers, she was missing a lot of important people (aunts, close family friends, etc.) So know I'm having to hunt down addresses that I thought I would have. I finally received everyones address for my side, now I'm just waiting for my FMIL to send me their side. I'm becoming impatient and have sent her many messages....I'll send another one today and see if I get anything...GRRR
My husband, my mom, and his mother-in-law weren't very speedy in gathering addresses. I just kept pushing. We eventually got them. I think a few save-the-dates went out slightly later than the rest because of missing addresses. It wasn't a big deal. :)
whitepages.com is my new best friend! But super creepy how easy it is to find people...they had a picture of my house...
My side of the family is huge, but my mom had everyone's addresses in an address book- so I just stole that for a weekend and filled everyone in. As for FI's side of the family...very small (as in about 5 addresses), we have all of them except his sister so I'm not too concerned. For our friends- facebook was my best friend! I was able to send everyone a message on facebook, or text people, and got everything filled in! I'm only missing maybe 2 or 3 now.
Hah, we definitely missed the deadline for some of ours - including some family who just didn't get back to us. That was wierd. But whatever, hopefully they'll all be in by the time the invites go out!

My mom and my fiances mom never got all of the addresses to us. I got so irritated that I handed my mom a bunch of STD's with the guests names on them and told her to pass them out. Our wedding isn't super formal so I don't think anyone would be offended. My fiances mom had STDs mailed to her to give to her brothers because she never got me addresses after 2 months of asking. We only had 2 STD's come back for wrong addresses, both were ones that my mom had given me. Fail.

I feel like I have been gathering addresses for years! My save the dates are in and assembled, but I don't want to send some and not others. I am way too ocd for that mess! How long did it take your FI/In laws/parents to get their list together?
