I personally love Melissa--I know there are tons of home cooks on TV already, but I think she's got a lot of interesting things going on and I think she can be really surprising on air. Jeffrey sometimes strikes me as rather cold ... for some reason he reminds me of that Michael Chiarello dude.
I watch this show and I actually liked Debbie the best. Melissa just stresses me out and Jeffrey seems too rehearsed/over-the-top. Personally, I watch Food TV to learn, so I don't want someone who is just a home cook. I want someone who can teach me stuff I don't know, so I prefer the shows with the actual chefs.
Ugh Debbie drove me crazy -- we get it, you are Korean! She was consistent and not in a good way. I think that the Food Network is also a little female-heavy so that's why I think Jeffrey has a pretty good chance.
Melissa, Melissa, Melissa! I think Debbie is a little shady and I agree with GaBGal about how she always cooks within the same parameters. Jeffrey is blahboring. Melissa has such an inspirtational story and I love how she's not a trained cook and yet has outcooked everyone!
I liked Debbie, but I like Melissa more. Jeffrey is too smooth for me; it actually kinda creeps me out... Honestly, my very favorite this season was Michael. I felt like his personality is so different from all the other FoodNetwork stars; he just really stood out. I felt so bad watching week after week when it seemed like the camera just became more and more intimidating to him. :( He was the best, imo.
i went to sleep late watching this show last night! I think it was the rerun thought bc it ended at midnight.
Anyways, I have to agree with GaBGal about Debbie. She drove me a little crazy too. It also concerned me that they complained about her food being bland. I also watch Food Network (religiously) for new ideas and I like it when chefs cook with a lot of flavorful ingredients stead of having to use salt afterwards.
I personally like Melissa. I like Jeffrey also, but he comes across as a little full of himself. His food looks delcious (except for the risotto but I felt bad for him) and I actually thought even though he did come in under budget that his food choices were pretty good. I would love to try and make that scallop in green chile sauce!
I like Melissa partly because I like her story. Another reason is because I do have kids also so I like how that one episode she pureed the veggies in the mac and cheese to mask them. Home cook or not, she has ideas that I would have never thought of being "just" a home cook myself. THAT is what I look for when watching these shows or flipping through my cooking mags. :)
Either way, I like how it has turned out so far and will watch either one that wins at this point. I can't say I would have been rushing home to catch Debbie or some of the other contestants they had like I do to watch Paula and Rachel.
A thousand times no to Michael! What a mistake I think that would have been.Basically, I found him obnoxious and not appealing. Like I said before, Jamika had a great charm about her but she lost it toward her end. It'll be interesting who they end up with!
@GaBGal, Oh I know what you mean about Michael! His whole "who loves you" routine felt so fake on the show. He is probably a really good cook with a great personality, but it's just not appealing on tv.
Ahhh, I loved Michael; I didn't think he was fake at all. :( I did feel that way about Jamika, though... Isn't it weird how some people react differently to different personalities?
I really like them both, they are who I wanted to be in the final two so either one I would be happy with winning.
OH they got rid of SO many horrible ones so I am 50/50 on Jeffrey or Melissa!
Last season I felt Aaron was the most boring and least qualified and was SHOCKED he was picked of the final 3 (glad they went down to 2 this year) so I'm just happy taht it's not DEBBIE who's taking the cake now... she was also, I feel, kind of boxed-in as far as her talents and tastes and a little fake/weird on camera.
wow I gotta say I was surprised that Melissa won... I really think her demographic is filled and I liked Jeffrey's concept of trying to new ingredients. This is the first season I watched in full (well, I missed the first episode) it will be interesting to see if Melissa really does become a success!
FI and I were hardcore Jeffrey fans from the get-go, but Melissa was our second favorite, so I'm glad she won!

Anyone else watch?
Okay so the next to last episode just aired. Melissa and Jeffrey are in the final 2! I figured Jeffrey from the get-go and Melissa has stepped it up. I'm glad it is down these two (even though I really like Jamika).
Who do you think you would watch as a food network show? My choice is Jeffrey. Melissa is just a tad too high strung for me and I think her market is filled.
