Hi Hive!  (it's hard for me to call you ladies Bees, because FMIL's nickname for FI is Maccabees, or "Bees" lol)

MOH and I went dress scouting again today, and I think I found the dress.  Here's the story:

We went to a little boutique on the main drag of my little town out here.  I didn't exactly have high hopes for the place, especially after my awful David's Bridal experience.  So we go, and I'm super nervous again.  The place was so nice though.  They had all the BM dresses on the down stairs and all of the wedding dresses upstairs.  So we go around, and she asks me a few questions about the type of ceremony I'm having, what my size is, etc., and pulls out quite a few dresses (the store had one of those remote closets - I felt like I was in Cher's closet from Clueless!).  THe first one I tried on was awesome.  As was the second one.  I'm not one of those girls who spends 45 minutes in a dress trying to decide..maybe that's a bad thing?  But after trying on 5 or 6 dresses and prancing about in them, I still didn't feel like I had found "it" (this was later confirmed by the song, "I Still Haven't Found (what I'm looking for)" came on.  Can we say irony? lol).

Then she pulls out this dress from her fantastic closet and says, "Alright, humor me.  I know this is probably not what you want because of the sparkles, but let's just see it."  I was game, so I put the dress on.  She laced me up and it fit like a glove (and this was just the try on!).  Turns out, it's Maggie Sottero's Ruby.  I loved this dress.  I went up on the pedestal, and my jaw just dropped.  I felt like a freaking queen!  It accentuated my waist without making my hips look too big, and gave me some GREAT cleave.  She had my put my hair up in a loose bun and put a veil on me...and I was just in love.  I walked around, and then I walked towards a mirror, to get the view FI would get, and I just cannot say how beautiful I felt.

Problem is...it's $1500.  Eek!  That's half our budget!  I'm hoping I can find it for cheaper online, or maybe even a "knock off" that's super similar.  I just couldn't get enough of the dress, but I definitely would not be able to spend half our budget on it!  I'll figure it out.

Anywho...here are some pics of it (including the one of the model)

It looks great on you! Is it the silhouette you just love? b/c you can find a maggie for like, half that price. I got mine for $400 and it definitely has less bling (and lace, lace is pricey), but you can get that same look w/o all the sparkle, especially if you're in love with the fit. She has so many affordable dresses, you may not get the Ruby, but you may get something you love just as much that you can afford

It's a very pretty dress and is very flattering on you!  Try getting a quote from www.netbride.com.  I ordered my Watters dress from them and saved a ton of money.

You look so happy! I'm sure you can find the gown used. I wouldn't recommend a knock-off. I just wouldn't trust the quality and you probably won't get as great of a fit.

@EJS, I loved everything about the dress...the bling (I was amazed at how well it complimented my ring), the lace, the silhouette..just the whole thing.  I'll keep looking though :)

@tulip and crebre, thanks for those websites!  I'll definitely check them out

@jamie, I felt so happy!  I had no idea a dress could make me feel such a way

I just remembered, this dress looks similar to a dress that I have seen by Jasmine Bridal. They are cheaper than maggies so it might be something to look in to. I dont know exactly which dress it was because I saw it in passing but you can go to jasminebridal.com and look through the dresses there. Ill let you know if i see it too!

Dizzy- what kind of a wedding are you planning? It really helped me to nail down the theme and overall feeling of my wedding before I could select a dress because a lot of dresses that I tried on were beautiful, but the one I ended up getting is beautiful and perfect for the day and the look I am going for.

I hate going over budget, so I'd start a serious search for a dress in your price range. There are some seriously beautiful dresses at department stores. Once you go all bling-y in one aspect of your wedding, it is hard to stop. You still need a veil, shoes, accessories... by the time you are done you could have easily spent the entire wedding budget.

I'm sure you will look beautiful in whatever dress you pick.

    Thanks so much, mand!

@Jacqi, Originally it was going to be laid back and summery.  Now, it's going to be semi-formal, but still small.  The lady at the boutique said that if the wedding was small, I could still wear the dress.

I do worry about it being too blingy.  All I know is that I want to look/FEEL like a princess :)  BUT, I think this is a sign:  I got a postcard in the mail for a post-Thanksgiving sale at a boutique in Hew Hampshire...50-80% off their entire selection!!!  Maybe I'll find something :D

    Dizzy,

Seriously, you are GLOWING in that dress.  It's gorgeous and looks amazing on you!  I'm wearing a Maggie also, and was able to bargain with the bridal shop to take $400 off.  Make sure you look around...it took me going to 3 different salons before I found one that would discount the dress that much.  I wish you luck in finding it (either new or used) because I definitely think you found THE ONE!
