I saw the post asking if you regret wearing your hair up. I guess I am asking the opposite question.
We are having a low budget wedding in NYC. Hair stylists are really expensive here. I was thinking of doing my own hair to save money. I can’t do my own updos. But I can blow dry my own hair and just wear it down. I also usually wear it down – it looks more like me. But I am scared that I will regret:
1. Having to worry about my hair the morning of my wedding. What if something goes wrong?
2. Having a down do that is not formal enough. My hair also doesn’t hold curls at all – so I would just blow it out straight.
3. Not sure how to attach the veil?
4. Having it get sweaty at the reception and dancing.
5. It’s an evening wedding – afraid it won’t last till midnight before getting wet and saggy.
Have you done it? What are your thoughts?

I most def would probably regret it. My hair is long and thick and I’m having a June wedding. I would sweating up a storm.

I wore my half up/down at the wedding and I don’t regret it at all. I loved it! However, I did get it styled. If I were you, I would try to find $$ in your budget for hair. It’s a lot of peace of mind for $100 to have someone else do your hair. I would be stressed out trying to make my hair look perfect before the wedding. And stress is no fun on the wedding day.
Also, generally my hair doesn’t hold curl that well. But for the wedding, I last washed it Friday morning. After the rehearsal I re-wet it so it would air dry and have a little wave. So then it was “dirty” and slightly wavey when the hair-stylist curled it. Then add lots of hairspray.

I agree – I think you should think about getting it done. It would save you a ton of stress, not to mention the pre-wedding nightmares about a bad hair day.

The key to keeping your hair looking nice down would be to add products – pomade, shine serum, hairspray, etc.. I totally think you could do it yourself. You could also do half back by securing a section with a pretty barrette, then you’d have a spot for your veil. I wore my hair down though, and you really just have to nestle the comb in correctly for it to stay. Practice a few times and you should do fine.
If you’re still a little nervous to do it yourself could one of your friends or bridesmaids help?

Look into getting it done… you’ll probably regret it if your hair isn’t perfect!

I think there are two issues here – whether you would like the way it looks down, and the DIY factor. Like pp said, I would definitely suggest against DIY hair unless you have no other choice… it’s not something you can handle ahead of time, and it’s just too stressful on the day of your wedding. As to whether you’d like how it looked down – I think it depends on your hair type, your dress (particularly the neckline) and how well a “down” look would mesh with it, and the weather/humidity factor. Do you have a hair type that will frizz and get all poufy if it’s humid or sweaty? If so, might be better to wear it up so you don’t even have to worry about that.
