So, I ordered a discontinued (but new with tags) JCrew dress off Ebay from a seller with a 100% positive raiting last week on Tuesday. I got the tracking number on Wednesday and the seller says she shipped the dress on Friday morning. The tracking information has not updated – and its been almost a week. The item is coming from another place on the east coast, so coming priority mail it shouldn’t take long to get here. She is offering to refund my money. I had previously said I’ll give it until Friday to show up. She talked to the local post office where she dropped it off and they can’t find it.
My dilemma – do I order the same dress from another seller (one other dress in my size available) now and then have the other one eventually show up (which I then return to the seller?) or do I give it a few more days? Our mail should be here around 2 or 3 today. I will at least wait until after then to put in an order for the dress.
So much for “expedited” shipping – EBay told me to expect the dress on Friday or Saturday of last week… I need to get this sorted out as we are now 43 days out from the wedding and I need to leave time for alterations.

@glacier_gal: Get the new one and if the original one comes in the mail, return to the seller. That way you won’t have to stress about not having that dress as an option anymore.

Something similar happened to me. The post office kept saying they couldn’t find my package adn the tracking information just stopped updating. I left it alone for a few more days. I received my pacakage about a week later than I should have. I would just wait it out a bit more if you have the time. Then think about ordering a new dress if necessary.

The tracking information that they give is often not updated/accurate, unfortunately. Go to your local PO with the tracking number and see if they can sort it out. If not, order a new dress and take the refund.

I would wait until today’s mail. But then if you still don’t have it, get the refund and order the new dress.

So is the sender the Post Office? (Not FedEx or UPS?)
This is so wrong, we pay extra money to “track” packages because they are important. Don’t these companies have any liability to provide the service that was paid for?!
I suppose this is why they sell insurance at the Post Office… >:(

I voted to give ti a week. I have learned to never trust the post office. They are always slow with things, even when I have tracking and it says it’ll be delivered a certain date, it comes a few days after that.

@glacier_gal: this dress will not show up. trust me, i just went through this with the post office for a lands end dress (not as expensive as yours I am sure) and its been a month and it has not shown up. They dont know what happened. Lands end replaced it and sent me another one and it got here in 3 days, just fine…
I suggest buying another dress and getting a refund

I voted to order a new dress. At least you’ll have a dress if the first dress doesn’t turn up and get a refund.
If it does turn up, well then… return one of the dresses. 🙂 Sometimes the tracking number doesn’t work. I’ve ordered online with expedited shipping and tracking… well it did eventually turn up, but the tracking never worked.
Get a new dress, save yourself the worry.

UPDATE: I re-ordered the dress last friday. Had the seller give me a UPS option and picked that. The origninal dress still hasn’t shown up nor has the tracking info updated. Now I’m ticked (RANT) that the new dress has been shipped via USPS when I paid for UPS shipping. Tracking info hasn’t updated beyond a USPS tracking number.
UGH. Seriously, if dress #2 gets lost and doesn’t get here soon I am gong to be quite unhappy.

@glacier_gal: OMG! WTF??? That definitely deserves a ding in seller rating. If you paid for UPS, you should have gotten UPS.

@glacier_gal: Just a bit of info to calm your nerves, USPS never gives detailed tracking info the way FedEx and UPS do. You really only find out that they have the package and that it’s been delived. You don’t find out that it’s in such a city or out for delivery or any of that. So your new dress is probably fine and the old dress will show up eventually.
