I am new to the wedding board and just started planning for a Pittsburgh wedding October 2013. My Fiance and I are on a very limited budget as we are paying for everything ourselves. We are trying to stay between $8-10K. We have looked at The Union Project and are considering the Pittsburgh Opera House too (although we are nervous about how far in advance you must book that space!) Our other consideration is The Pump House in Munhall- It’s a very raw space, but beautiful and on the water. We have just started considering this space, so we don’t have much information from them yet. Has anyone heard of a wedding in this space? We live in New York City, so it is difficult for us to see venues so any thoughts on that space would be much appreciated! Or any other venue suggestions…Thanks!

I had never heard of the Pump House so I looked it up. Are you familiar with Pittsburgh? Its not really in the city at all. I don’t know if that is a deciding factor at all. Other than that, it seems pretty awesome. I like the old architecture of it. Although, you might want to be wary of how many bathrooms you have on-site. If it weren’t so far away from the city, I might have even considered it!!

I live very near to the waterfront and actually considered the pump house too! But one day i stopped by to peek inside through the windows, and i saw that there are several plaques and “exhibit” like things set up throughout the room. I don’t think there’s any open space. : (
However i was peering through windows (it was closed when i was there) so maybe i was missing something. There is a “waterfront” office near the town center area close to where wet seal is, so i am wondering if you could ask them If they have any info.
Oh and the bathrooms in the circular building are very basic but they are quite clean.

Thanks for the feedback, ladies. @Stace126, I had seen pics of the Pump House and I was afraid that the one room that is somewhat open would be to small. Thanks for your insight! I think it is a really cool space, but for a super small wedding perhaps. I was having a fantasy about having the ceremony near the Labyrinth and then the reception in the House- but logistically I it would be tough with our numbers.
But I think we have decided to go with the Union Project, so thank you for your thoughts! It’s so exciting to have a venue and your feedback really helped us decide. Thanks!

Sweet! We actually looked at Union Project too but it was a bit too small for our giant guest list.
Glad you found a place that works for you. Happy planning!
