I am bored and feeling weddingy, so I thought I'd post some of the dresses I tried on that didn't make the cut the first time around. I think all of them are beautiful and would look great on a bride (who is not me). Anyway, on to the pictures, which we all know is the real reason we all read dress posts hehe.
1. Maggie Sottero Milana
Holy poor quality picture, Batman! It is actually really beaded and has lace appliques. This is the dress I bought and have since rejected. I was so nervous when I bought it; it was like I knew I was making a mistake. People cried, it IS a gorgeous dress, etc., but it just isn't "me."
2. Mori Lee unknown number

I sort of want straps. The is all pretty and gathered... and emphasizes my complete lack of hips or a bust. To be fair, it is too big and not cinched in the waist where it should, but it still isn't that flattering. And I am allergic to asymmetry (Not only do I not particularly enjoy it for myself, but I also have to google EVERY time I type it. You'd think I'd just remember how to spell it by now!). Next!
3. Maggie Sottero Monroe

I look tall! (It's an illusion created by the platform!) I look skinny! (It's an illusion created by the corset and the ruching!) I like it, but it is not the look I am going for. Onward.
4. Maggie Sottero Ruby

This dress is so pretty. The lace is delicate (and swiss dot, but you can't see in this picture) and the color is warm. Look at that hem! I love this one, but it was $500 more than I wanted to spend. Sigh.
5. Maggie Sottero

I don't remember the name of this one, and I am too lazy to look it up right now. Sorry, bees. This dress created my love of organza. Look how pretty the layers at the bottom and the bust are! My sister didn't like this one because she said it looks like I am wearing a dress over another dress where the lace ends, and I can see her point. The search continues.
And yes, that is Ellie's wedding picture from the movie Up pasted over the terrible face I was making. She was a beaming bride! I had no makeup on. Do you blame me? I also tried on and loved quite a few Casablancas, but that was a different shop that would not allow pictures, sadly.
Any fun rejected dresses you'd like to share?
This is a fun post! Thanks for sharing your pics Amaryllis. Oh my god I have tons of reject pics at home, some awful to look at and some that still make me go, "hmmm, what if...". I'll post them tonight from my home computer. Anxious to see others pics as well.
hehe what a fun post!!
I sadly and honestly do not have any pictures of rejetcs...I sorta knew right away and moved on. Also, the salon where I found my "winner" I don't even have pictures from! I *will* when I go in Feb. to do my first fitting!
meliss -- Oh, yes, this is a carefully edited list of rejects, of course. Some were too horrifying (and embarassing) to post!
Sulli -- I wish I had such direction. Even now when I consider what I want, I have such an array of things I like. Your first fitting is coming up soon, too! Exciting.
Fun!
Okay...The first day, this was the one I was in love with. I started calling it the "Fun Dress"
This one the 1st runner up on the first day--I still kind of think about this dress b/c it is so classic. I LOVED the back, but you can't see it--it was lower cut in the back. It was a halter, but if I had gotten it I would have made it strapless

This was very pretty & most similar to Jenny Peckham which was the style I initially thought I wanted. Very beautiful & very comfortable, but it reminded me a lot of my prom dress & I wanted something different....

Okay, okay, this is my last one!! This was from the second day and this is ALMOST the one that I got, until I found the one I ultimately chose. I think its super cute, but I thought the strapless was actually less flattering on me than the strapped/plunging neckline version of the one that I did get, even though the bodice was exactly the same.

moneypenny -- the first one is fun! Is the second one Maggie Sottero Korena? It looks really similar to that dress, which I tried on, but refer to my comment about editing out the horrifyingly unflattering! The third one is pretty but hides your great figure. And completely agree on the last one; it has the great elements of your dress but the extra boob ruffle doesn't really do much for it!
OOO Here are my rejects. Even though I did love them. lol. They are all Claire pettibone:
@amaryllis - I LOVED the flower strap on the "fun dress". My feelings alternated btwn "It's so different & extra & I love it" and "Is my FI gonna laugh at me when I roll up with this big a** flower on my shoulder???" I still think its adorable though!
Yes, that lace dress is Maggie--can't remember the name though. It was really the only lace dress I really loved b/c I loved the pattern of the lace.
@flamingred - I really love the last dress!! So elegant & flowy. I could see that working in any type of venue
moneypenn02: the last dress looks amazing on you! if that was a reject, i'd love to see how awesome the one you chose is. where can we see a pic of it?
and flamingred: i LOVE claire pettibone and tried on several of her gowns, but ultimately decided that they were all too informal for my wedding. did you ultimately settle on a different claire pettibone gown, or something altogether different? (edit: just saw your post in the "dress vision" thread. guess you did, ha!)
What a fun thread!
I have to say, for rejected dresses they still look GORGEOUS on you ladies!!!
haha. i didn't realize i was making such awful facial expressions in these pics LOL
I only went dress shopping at 3 places: Alfred Angelos, David's Bridal, and a boutique near my parents called Bridal Chateau. I had two favorites from AA, and one from DB that didn't make the cut, and tons from the boutique that I wasn't allowed to take pictures of.
So here's 3 that didn't make it!
Alfred Angelo. (I liked this dress, but didn't LOVE the neckline and thought it made me look a tad hippy)

Alfred Angelo. (I really wanted lace at first, but this one just had too much going on.)

David's Bridal. (This one felt strange in the boobs and it didn't feel wedding-y to me. Although my mom loved it and thought it would go really well with the reception venue.)

In the end I ended up going with Casablanca 1881 in all white which was completely different than what I had invisioned myself wearing! (an all lace mermaid type gown).
girls i know you call them reject but u guys look beautiful in those dresses
flamingred -- That first one (the short dress) is amazing!
Lorienne and Magenta -- Thanks!
OttowaBride -- Your face in the last one is priceless! I love the straps on that dress, though.
Miss Stephanie -- Those all look great on you! The one you got is lovely, though.
@ amaryllis....girl I really, really like the maggie s. monroe on you....so pretty!
@ moneypenny....that last dress...just blew me away. you look amazing in it!
Here's one more! I almost bought this one. The facial expressions continue...
OttowaBride -- I LOLed. You just look so like "omg do I haaaaaaaaaave to take a picture in this? Well, fine, but you can't make me smile!" Still not a bad dress, though!
Thanks msmonicka! It was a really high contender until I realized that it just does not say "getting married in a field" AT ALL!
rnc -- Me, too! But I couldn't justify the $$$
One more for laughs. This was definitely the worst dress I tried on. I think once I got out there, I turned right back around and took it off haha. I refer to it fondly as "the plank dress."
Maggie Sottero Krystalynn

Waist? What waist? Where have what little hips I have gone?
@Miss Stephanie, I tried on that lace one at AA too, and thought the same thing you did, just a little too much going on.
that last Maggie dress has no shape! glad you didn't get it.
@moneypenny02: I tried on the first one you posted too. I liked it better on the rack than on me. ;)
Fun post.. I wish I had taken photos of more rejects.. my grandma loved this one so she took a picture
my turn lol...

my little sister loved this in the picture and i was like umm hello do you see the way it emphasizes EVERYTHING in my body that i don't want emphasized?!
I love this post! Here are some of my rejects. My mom is the worst at taking pictures, so hardly any of them have the full thing.
Casablanca 1911

Casablanca 1971

Casablanca 1914

Alfred Angelo (it's discontinued, so i don't know the syle #)

Maggie Sottero Harlow

Ha. There are more. I will upload them later. I love that I'm making a face in every picture.
Here's the rest of them. lol

I know the one above is La Sposa.

I think it's funny that my dress I bought looks absolutely nothing like any of these.
I looove this thread @Ottawabride- you are HILARIOUS! I love your facial expression!
First two are Maggie Sottero (Cassandra) and the next two are Maggie Sottero (Sabelle).., then the last one is Pronovias (dont remember the name).im making the annoyed face as well cause the person taking the picture took way too long. I really liked both these dresses, but after looking for over a month, I decided they were too heavy and didnt have enough crystals.

Miss Bella -- your face say it all!
tenchyz --I see this is your first post; welcome to WB! The ruffles on the last one look really fun and light. Have you made a decision on another dress? What ended up being the winner?
crebre -- I like the second one, but none of them compare to your Sophia!
zippy -- Oooh lots of pretty! I also tried on Casablanca 1971. I don't remember why it got the cut. Price possibly. It's such a pretty dress! I also love the sleeves on the one that you think is La Sposa. The very first dress in your second post is amazing; you totally rock it, too. What dress did you end up going with? It seems like quite a few of us have bought something really different from a lot of the styles we tried on.
I am also really happy to see how many people are enjoying this post!
What a cool thread!
@Moneypenny: That last dress looks amazing on you! You look like a movie star!!
Here are my "The Good, The Bad and the Ugly":) Counting down from last place to winner:
1) Maggie gone wrong. This had looked so good on the website!
2) La Sposa: Poofy creature from the lagoon. I almost purchased this dress before seeing the photos!
3) Harlow. So pretty on other girls, shapeless sack on me.
4) Pronovias: Everything I wanted (lace, drop waist, a line skirt) is there. But the combination looks so plain?!
5) Enzoani blue: Pretty but old-fashioned.
(cont)
6) Private label: Gorgeous dress but not what I was looking for.
7)Enzoani: Again, has everything I want, but makes me look like a tree trunk.
8) Jasmine: Great fit, not so great material.
9) Casablanca: If only the lace was nicer...
10) Eve of Milady: Loved it but too much money for too little dress.
11) Aire Barcelona: Kept going back and forth...I still think about this dress sometimes.
(cont)
12) Vera Wang: Everyone on the Bee hated this dress when I first posted but I still love how it makes my waist look tiny.
13) Lazaro- The Chosen One!
Oooohh FUN!!! You guys look so good in these so-called rejects.
Here are some of mine:
Alfred Angelo Saphire
I think this next one is Casablanca
Maggie Sottero Mirabella - She was almost The One!
Maggie Sottero Brielle - I loved this one. My dad said it was lumpy : )
@amaryllis - i wish i had seen that maggie monroe dress when i was trying on dresses. my dress is a cosmobella (by dimitrios) and it looks really similar with the dropped waist! i love it.
here are some of my rejects:
this one is a sottero midgely, i would have had to buy this floor sample and it was yuck.
this one i'm not sure who makes it, but it was so early 90s to me.
this one was a maggie, but it i felt like it looked like the dress was too small one me (and it totally wasn't).
i think this one may have been a maggie too. this one looked like a mummy to me around the waist and the back had this really weird gathering right at the butt. made me look like i had a lot of back! also, the top on this one was so stiff it felt like it didn't fit you, you fit it.
Here are mine! The first and second pics are of the dress I called the Belle dress haha everyone oohed and awwed till we saw the " 3 butt back" lol
The second pics is of the " Can Can" dress
The thrid was supposed to be the dress I wanted or close to it I wanted the Mellisa Broach from Maggie Sottero but the dress store did not have that one i was sad but then I found my dress!
This is a fun thread! I don't have any rejects! I ordered the first and only dress that I tried on =)
