So I have to show the two places I found to my husband, but I think I love them.  I've found two townhomes that are much nicer than the houses we've been looking at.  They have everything we want - a nice kitchen, a fireplace, at least two bedrooms, a garage, and spacious living areas.  One even has a jacuzzi tub in the master.  However, he wants a yard so that when it snows, we'll have room to play in it (he becomes a big kid in the snow).  They do have grassy areas beside them (both are end units) but they aren't private areas.  I can see the other side of it being that with a townhome, someone else will cut our grass and do our snow removal.  What do you guys think?  Any pros and cons to either that I might be missing in my head?

Also, these townhomes are closer to grocery stores and food.  And they're about a five minute drive from an outlet mall.

Edit: My mom, who's from Michigan, told me that once it gets really cold and snowy, we'll appreciate being closer to things such as food and work (it's fifteen minutes from my husband's workplace).

I would choose the townhouse. The reality is that even if you have a yard, there's only so much fun you can have in the snow in your yard. It's way more fun to go for a walk, go over to the closest park or golf course and cross country ski, or toboggan.

You can make a snowman in the green space next to your unit if that's what he would like to do.

@julies1949: I was also hoping that if he agrees to a townhome that it would force us to explore while we're up there.  And a townhome community would be a great space to walk our dog.
