All the bridal boutiques near Boston seem to have some horror story from some-many brides. I understand this is because they are dealing with Brides and cannot all be bad. I am looking for a dress in the $1500 max range, and need an insider to tell me whos who and where to go without all the snooty BS. Help!

Vows was the first store I went to. What I liked was the ability to try on as many different dresses in your appointment slot. It happened me narrow down what styles I didn’t want. You can also see their inventory online. This is really helpful for when you are there. (Hint, write down the dress number as it makes it easier to find.) The store is set up like a department store and is just racks of dresses for you to go through. The person with you should help you pull dresses/styles as well. If you go, don’t expect the one-on-one atmosphere that you see on the tv shows.
I found my dress at Madeline’s Bridal in Portsmouth, New Husband. It was actually part of their sample sale, so that was a huge budget saver (80% off). This is similar to what you see on tv. You have your own “room” and the consultant sits with you to hear what you like/don’t like and then they bring dresses to you.
Good luck and remember to have fun!

I went to New York Lace, but it’s in Taunton. My friend got her dress there as well. They have a great approach to shopping that no other store really seemed to match. You tell them what you are envisioning and they bring you a dress to start with and you tell them exactly what you like and don’t like about it and they keep refining the dresses they bring you based on what you say. The prices also included alterations and my dress needed a lot alterations because they ordered it too big due to one of my measurements being right in between two sizes.

@fuzzle79: thank you, that place sound more down to earth. I am in between sizes too, a 2/4 on top and 6/8 on bottom , will need alterations!

I bought my dress at Precious Memories in Malden. The staff is incredible and they have a wide variety of dresses under $2000. (I had the same budget as you, and I ended up getting a beautiful Maggie Sottero dress for just around 1600). I highly recommend them.
