Hard to tell with out a clearer pic. Is it a diamond? Whats your finger size?

Cafeaulait:  My first thought is that it is very beautiful in that clean, classic way that solitaires are. My second thought is that it is too big, but that is totally a matter of preference. I have no guess as to specs, but as to price, it is either:

A) $50,000 diamond ring.

B) $3,000 moissanite ring

c) $200 CZ ring.

I honestly can’t tell the difference between any of them.

Well if its a diamond, it looks to be over 2 carats. So anywhere between 12k – 60k depending on the specs. My almost blind guess would be very good cut, H or I in color, SI1… about 17k.

You should really have it appraised and insured though!

It’s very pretty, but like PPs have said – hard to tell if it’s a diamond, moissy, etc.

My first thought was that it is huge! My second thought was, is it a diamond? I don’t know about your finances, but if it’s as big as it looks, that is one expensive ring.

In any event, congratulations on your engagement is in order, which is far more important. 🙂

If you’re a size 7 then its probably around 3cts, 9mm diameter at any rate. As I’m a size 8 wearing a 3ct round right now, I can also wear a size 7. We have differently shaped hands but allowing for that and working with the angles of your shots that’s what it looks like.

It’s big, no doubt.

Could be CZ or diamond

Why not ask your fiance? Either way, I imagine you’d know if he can afford a $xx,000 rock!

Cafeaulait:  First thoughts: Congratulations on your engagement! I love solitaires (have one myself) and while the stone is a bit larger than I’d feel comfortable wearing, it’s lovely and I’m sure you’re ecstatic to wear it.

Truthfully, though, none of us will be able to give you an answer as to what type of stone it is (diamond, moissanite, CZ, another white colored stone), what its specs are, or what it costs. The things that appraisers look for (inclusions, clarity, etc) are almost completely lost in photographs, even if we DID know what to look for. I would suggest having it appraised and insured if you’re concerned about those things. 🙂

I think it needs to be sized up. If you’re not sure if it’s a diamond, you can try some of the home diamond tests you can find online.  Not foolproof, but it’s a start.

I don’t think it’s a diamond. It doesn’t look like one but it’s a beautiful ring!

Cafeaulait:  The second set of pics you posted make me wonder if it might be a white sapphire?

Please don’t get too caught up in specs. No one cares about that anywhere other than WB. The stone is beautiful, and I think you should just ask your FI what kind of stone it is. I think you only have reason to be concerned if it is CZ, because CZ will cloud. I doubt that is what it is though.

Cafeaulait:  it could be white sapphire! In the second set of pictures you posted it looks like it’s slightly blue/cloudy blue. My friend has a 2ct equivalent white sapphire and it looks very similar! It is goregous, congrats! The “fog test”  should be able to tell you if it’s a diamond, or at least that it’s not a CZ. But honestly it’s stunning and I think you shouls be happy with whatever it is. OH! Check the band for any mark. Most CZ and white sapphire won’t be set in gold Or platnium.

Check for makes like 925 or STERLING for silver, 10k 14k 18k for gold.
