There are pros and cons to each.

With a guest book, its more traditional, people attending your wedding are able to write something more than just the signature, a more personal message that you are able to go back to at some point in the future.  But, you have to put it away somewhere and you would have to get it out whenever you want to look at it.

With a signature frame, its really trendy so you might see a similar one at someone elses house from their wedding, but you do get to hang them on the wall and have them more available for you to see.

    I can’t honestly decide what I want.

I’ve also heard of rock jars.  Also some index cards that are shoved in a wine bottle that you are supposed to break when you need it (presumably at your first fight).  I think thats a pintrest thing that is tacky, but eh what do I know.

Let us know what your thoughts are.

We did a signature frame. There was plenty of room for guests to write us notes on it. We knew if we did a guest book, we would absolutely never look at it again. With the frame, we can hang it, and have a constant reminder of how awesome our friends are and our day was.

@ksus07:  I have a signature frame from my college graduation party, and I love it! I can just look at it on the wall whenever I want and I get to see all the well wishes from my family and friends. I remember my cousin got married when I was in high school and they had a signature frame at their wedding, and I thought it was such an awesome idea. I’d love for us to have one at our wedding as well. I agree about the guest book–you just put it away somewhere and have to pull it out to look at. It’s nice to have the messages on display.

I would pack the frame in the middle of your clothes, wrapped in paper. I think it could easily make the trip.

@ksus07:  Well, we didnt have a DW but, if you have a large enough suitcase it should travel okay. You wouldn’t need the glass, just wrap it in something to protect the matboard/frame itself, so it wouldn’t be super fragile, just the size of the frame would be tough. I believe we had a 16×20 (maybe 18×24…can’t remember and I’m no at home to check) frame, and then we ordered a high quality mat, has a cut out for a 5×7 photo cut in. Then we ordered archival quality pens (black only) and had the mat, in the frame (so no one’s signature was cut off) out for people to sign. We had 84 guests total, but most couples only signed once, so maybe only about 50-60 signatures, and not everyone will sign. Most people wrote something brief “congrats and best wishes! we love you!” stuff like that. Then when you get home, get pics back, you can put it all together and hang it up. Michael’s really helped us with ours.

They also sell ready-to-go kits at Michael’s (frame with mat, cutout) all ready to go, but we didnt love the frame it came with (plain black – we bought one that looked like distressed wood).

Other people have done the “thumbprint” guestbooks, which are a bit smaller and I think are cute…might travel better, but I feel like they could get messy? Something like this: http://thumbprintguestbooks.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/thumbprint_wedding_tree_guest_book02.jpg

@ksus07:  I like the idea of something hanging on the wall or on display that you can see daily instead of a book that will be on a shelf and you may never look at.

@GeekChic:  LOVE this idea – I might have to steal that – did you keep the list in there or switch it out for a wedding photo?
